Jars of Clay Garners Four Dove Award Nominations

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) January 14, 2003 – Multi-Platinum selling band Jars of Clay (Essential/Silvertone Records) adds four Dove nominations to its list of 22-career Gospel Music Association nods today.

Jars of Clay’s critically acclaimed, fourth studio release, The Eleventh Hour, garners the band a Dove nomination for “Modern Rock/Alternative Album,” while the album’s hit single, “Revolution” receives honors in the “Modern Rock/Alternative Recorded Song” category. The band receives two additional nods for “Long Form Music Video,” 11 Live-Jars of Clay In Concert, and for “Special Event Album” for its contribution to Essential Records’ City On A Hill-Sing Alleluia.

In addition to the Jars of Clay nominations, individual band members, Dan Haseltine, Stephen Mason, Matt Odmark and Charlie Lowell, each received two Dove nominations, one as producer for the The Eleventh Hour, and one as songwriter for “Revolution.” All told, the band could receive a total of 12 Dove Award statuettes during the 34th Annual Dove Awards, which will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville.

Besides the Dove honors, The Eleventh Hour recently received a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album, marking Jars of Clay’s fourth consecutive Recording Academy nod for each of the band’s studio projects. The band won its first GRAMMY for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album in 1997 with its Platinum-selling recording, Much Afraid, followed by a second consecutive win in the category in 2001 with its Gold-Selling, If I Left the Zoo.

Jars of Clay will release its fifth project, Furthermore – From The Studio: From The Stage, Feb. 4. The two-disc set features an acoustic disc, From The Studio, with 11 songs, including eight new arrangements of Jars of Clay favorites and three new songs. The second disc, From The Stage, offers 10 cuts recorded live on the successful, major market The Eleventh Hour Tour. Returning to its creative roots, just as with The Eleventh Hour, Jars of Clay wrote, arranged, recorded and produced Furthermore – From The Studio: From The Stage at its own Sputnik Studio in Franklin, Tenn.

Following the release of Furthermore, Jars of Clay is embarking on a 40-plus city, college-market tour beginning February 12 in Grand Rapids and running nationwide through mid April. Already heralded by promoters as the “thinking man’s pop tour,” Jars of Clay will showcase acoustic versions of its favorite songs in support of Furthermore.
