Well, I'll comply In reference to Phantoms: The crappy Ben Affleck film?
If you choose to see it that way, I really appreciate Phantoms. It was a book written by Dean Koontz and I think it translates relatively well to film, despite Ben Afleck's appearance. In reference to The Ring What do you think of the Japanese original
I haven't seen it, but apparently its getting a lot of publicity in the states. I don't really care to see it.

Yes, a guilty pleasure of mine I suppose. I like them, Jacob's Ladder is at least respectable. How did XXX and Die Another Day get on that list?
XXX is a good action movie, and Die Another Day was a filler because I couldn't think of anything else. No Superman?
See it on the list? I can't complain about John Carpenter films. I actually watched Halloween for the first time 2 days ago
Well, Halloween may see a bit outdated now, but it was ahead of its time and is now the mold all slasher flicks follow. I'm not surprised to see you've just seen it though.
In the Mouth of Madness is very good, in my opinion. One of my favorite movies, obviously.
Now where is your list, so I can critique it. 1. The Royal Tenebaums 2. A Better Tomarrow 3. Dead Poets Society 4. American Beauty 5. Star Trek II 6. Empire Strikes Back 7. Unbreakable 8. Superman (the first 50 minutes) 9. Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels 10.Pulp Fiction
Ahh, here it is, what a grouping
The Royal Tenebaums: I hope this was mistakenly added to your top 10
A Better Tomorrow: Never heard of it
Dead Poets Society: A respectable top 10 choice
American Beauty: A cliche top 10 choice
Star Trek II: Umm....trekkie pick
Empire Strikes Back: I'll let it slide
Unbreakable: Hardly M. Night's best work
Superman: Sympathetic kid pick
Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels: Guy Ritchie's first popular U.S. hit, but Snatch was better
Pulp Fiction: Good pick, but surprising to see at the bottom of this list

XXX = good action movie? You just lost all your movie reviewing credibility. Especially when the best example of a filler action film was Die Another Day. Quote:

Why? You don't know anything about my movie watching habits. I'm surprised I haven't seen it yet. I've been a John Carpenter fan for about 10 years and I've owned it for about one year. Quote:
The Royal Tenebaums: I hope this was mistakenly added to your top 10
Have you not seen it or did you not understand it? Maybe it was because it wasn't a blockbuster. Quote:
A Better Tomorrow: Never heard of it
Probably because its a Hong Kong film and you only seem interested in mainstream blockbusters. Quote:
American Beauty: A cliche top 10 choice
Probably because its an incredible film. Quote:
Unbreakable: Hardly M. Night's best work
I'm sorry it didn't make over $200 million, but its still a great film. Quote:
Superman: Sympathetic kid pick
If you'd read what I posted I said the first 50 minutes. What part of the first 50 minutes was a kid pick. It was talkie and dramatic. Probably because Mario Puzo, author of The Godfather, worked on the development of the story for the film. Quote:
Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels: Guy Ritchie's first popular U.S. hit, but Snatch was better
Why because it had a higher budget, Brad Pitt and a weaker story telling? Quote:
Pulp Fiction: Good pick, but surprising to see at the bottom of this list
I numbered my list, but it really wasn't in any particular order. I actually hating making lists like this. I'm very active in the forum so I thought I should post some sort of list. Those movies really aren't my favorites or what I think are the best.

| Why?
I'm quite satisfied with the American version XXX = good action movie? You just lost all your movie reviewing credibility. Especially when the best example of a filler action film was Die Another Day.
XXX is a good action movie in my opinion, its the best I've seen for a while. I'm starting to wonder if you've actually seen it. Why? You don't know anything about my movie watching habits. I'm surprised I haven't seen it yet. I've been a John Carpenter fan for about 10 years and I've owned it for about one year.
Because I just recently watched it about 2 years ago. Have you not seen it or did you not understand it? Maybe it was because it wasn't a blockbuster.
I've seen it and thought it was a sad disgrace of a movie that tried to be good because it had a wide range of talented actors. Probably because its a Hong Kong film and you only seem interested in mainstream blockbusters.
Probably because I don't live in Hong Kong Probably because its an incredible film.
Probably because it won an oscar is more like it, I've seen it and didn't think too much of it. I'm sorry it didn't make over $200 million, but its still a great film.
Like I said, not his best work. I think M. Night should stick to making semi-scary movies instead of real-life superhero movies, which obviously is not his forte'. If you'd read what I posted I said the first 50 minutes. What part of the first 50 minutes was a kid pick. It was talkie and dramatic. Probably because Mario Puzo, author of The Godfather, worked on the development of the story for the film.
Please judge films as a whole. Notice the thread does not say, please list your top 10 sections of movies. Why because it had a higher budget, Brad Pitt and a weaker story telling?
No, because it was better. I've seen both, and preferred Snatch. Snatch has everything Lock has, and more. Its bigger, better, and it amplifies the ideas of the first film. I numbered my list, but it really wasn't in any particular order. I actually hating making lists like this. I'm very active in the forum so I thought I should post some sort of list. Those movies really aren't my favorites or what I think are the best.
If they aren't your favorites, then why did you post them?, that was kicking yourself in the ***

No, it was good because Wes Anderson is a very good writer, director and he had a great cast. Quote:

Neither do I. Do you love movies or mainstream hollywood blockbusters? Quote:

If that was how I determined my list I would have had to put Titanic on my list. Of all the films in history it holds the record for most Oscars with Ben-Hur. Quote:
I've seen it and didn't think too much of it.
You don't seem to like deep films that deal with people much. Quote:

I'm sorry. I do apologize Quote:
No, because it was better. I've seen both, and preferred Snatch. Snatch has everything Lock has, and more. Its bigger, better, and it amplifies the ideas of the first film.
It may amplify the ideas, but it doesn't really expand the ideas. He simply ripped off his own ideas and changed around the details. The movie wasn't fresh. I haven't seen many directors be that derivative of themselves. Also, the story doesn't flow well. The entire last 30 minutes of the movies I feel like the movie should be over. Its like 30 minutes of loose ends being tied. It feels like the movie keeps going and going and going. Thats bad when a movie is only 1 hour and 40 minutes long. Quote:
If they aren't your favorites, then why did you post them?,
Because its just a message board and it doesn't matter. I could never make a defintative Top 10 list. That list was more for my own ammusement. Quote:
that was kicking yourself in the ***
| Sure. I think you're the first person to attack my list since I posted it. I sure did kick myself in the ***.

| Of course I haven't.
Then I'm wondering why you commented on the movie. You should see it, its a good alternative to Bond movies, if you like that sort of thing. No, it was good because Wes Anderson is a very good writer, director and he had a great cast.
Thats funny, I thought it was bad for those reasons. Neither do I. Do you love movies or mainstream hollywood blockbusters?
I never said anything about loving movies. I like watching them. You don't seem to like deep films that deal with people much.
That may be a fair assumption It may amplify the ideas, but it doesn't really expand the ideas. He simply ripped off his own ideas and changed around the details. The movie wasn't fresh. I haven't seen many directors be that derivative of themselves. Also, the story doesn't flow well. The entire last 30 minutes of the movies I feel like the movie should be over. Yeah, the movie wasn't fresh but its still the better movie. If LSa2SB came out second, which would be the better movie?
I like the last 30 minutes and think its essential to the film. Because its just a message board and it doesn't matter. I could never make a defintative Top 10 list. That list was more for my own ammusement.
More for my amusement Sure. I think you're the first person to attack my list since I posted it. I sure did kick myself in the ***.
Before you began this it was a rule not to make comments on other people's lists.

You thought it was bad because Wes Anderson is good write/diretor and he had a great cast? That is certainly one way to look at things. Quote:
That may be a fair assumption
So why are you argueing against a deep movie? You just established that you don't like deep movies. Why would you like American Beautty? Quote:
Yeah, the movie wasn't fresh but its still the better movie. If LSa2SB came out second, which would be the better movie?
I still think the story telling was better in Lock Stock. I prefer it. In addition its more fresh and original. Quote:
I like the last 30 minutes and think its essential to the film.
Of course it is. That doesn't mean that it doesn't drag. Its one of the few movies that I felt like it dragged even when I enjoyed what was going on. I was impressed at its ability to do that. I love to entertain people. Quote:

Art is not the ONLY mod in here.....
Sean, the way to make Reise aware of the other thread, post a link and say "Hey Reise...let's continue this disscussion HERE" That would have been ideal. |
