edit: added "Adaptation" | This man knows his movies!
I would add Apocalypse Now and Citizen Kane though. But Amadeus is definitely it.

Lady in the Water and Signs are outstanding. LIW is so artistic. The story is eccentric and almost cheesy, but it's beautiful. Acting is wonderful. The music.. *dreamy smile* I love James Newton-Howard. And Signs.. Mel Gibson's character.. the redemptive ending.. some people could argue these movies are a bit corny, but they are so moving/powerful to me. And both have phenomenal acting, IMHO.

I wasn't such a big fan of Lady In The Water, but I thought Signs was tremendous. I mean, you've got Mel Gibson turning in a strong, yet understated and nuanced performance, solid performances from Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, and Abigail Breslin, great directing by M. Night Shyamalan, a real psychological thriller/horror feel to it, and great storytelling. Such a good movie; easily in my top three of all time.

Lady in the Water and Signs are outstanding. | Outstanding? *cough* Hardly so m'dear. Lady In the Water had lousy dialogue and a weak plot. Severly disappointing. Quote:

Or...just made it a completely different movie w/ Mel Gibson and the plot point of his wife's death.
I don't think we can agree on films. That's sad, because I liked you.

It totally drew me into it. Although I was in a very weird mood/place when I saw first saw it. I doubt it will ever be very acclaimed or anything. Quote: |

I watched both movies knowing that they are not 'realistic' movies, so I focus more on the themes and characters and the artisticness of everything else. Although I do that in every movie, I'm just assuming that you did not like how lame/farfetched the plots were. Other then that, both plots were pretty powerful, to me. Quote: |

| Signs was one of the worst movies I've seen in my life. Lady in the Water was okay, but at least it wasn't as bad as Signs. Seriously, I am so not a stuck up film critic, I like almost anything, however, Signs along with Maid in Manhattan are two of the worst movies ever made. IMHO. |

Signs and Maid in Manhattan. | Thats fine. People like different things. But there are 1,000s of films out there which lack even technical proficiency. The plot is incoherent. The editing doesn't make sense. The acting is terrible. They are films who's only redeeming quality is that they're easily mocked (thank you Mystery Science Theater 3000).
While Signs may be your least favorite film, there are 1,000s of films which are much worse films out there. |

I think Judge Dredd, is a pretty horrid film, but I love it anyways. |
