The Bone Collector

Anyone else a fan of this most excellent film?

It's not a bad movie, but it's not the best either.

I thought that the ending was kind of dumb, because the killer is only seen in the movie for 2-3 minutes, and it didn't really lead up to finding out who it was. At the end, all of a sudden, you found out who it was, and it didn't make much sense with the rest of the movie.

The movie as a whole was effectively creepy, though.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

I think it would have been cool if they had made the guy who was going to help him commit suicide the killer. Because then he comes in at the end and does what everyone knew was going to happen all along, yet he succeeds in his purpose. I don't know how they would have made a resolution out of that though.

Yeah, I felt that they just kind of looked at the cast list, and picked one of the characters and said, let's make it this guy.

Of course, the movie was based on a novel that I read, and it was the same guy as the one in the movie.

The only real difference in the book is that Denzel kills the bad guy without Angelina's character's help.

I'm putting my foot down on this..."Bone Collector", IMHO, is a waste of time. The only thing that made it stand apart from every other B-mystery-horror flick was the caliber of Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie, whose sincere efforts to make their boringly written characters actually seem intriguing were the only compelling aspect of the movie. Otherwise, this movie is just so unbelievably dull. Most thrillers are implausible enough when the killers leave obscure clues and body trails meant to trick the investigator, but "Bone Collector" takes the cake when the clues left behind are so ridiculously miniscule (bits of paper and print so small a microscope is needed to just make them out; to actually recognize their significance requires a PhD in Classical Studies) that the killer must have tried his elaborate scheme a thousand times before the investigators, by chance, stumbled on to his trail. Nevermind that the villian literally appears out of far left field so abruptly that the movie would've been more plausible had it revealed the killer to be Barney the Dinosaur. But by the end, I was so bored I just didn't care. A completely mediocre movie--watch "Se7en" or "Silence of the Lambs" (or even "Hannibal") if you want to partake of this genre.

SPOILER (not that you should put yourself in any state of suspense for this weak movie):

The only possible highlight of this movie was the stabbing of Queen Latifah. This ranks as high as Steven Segal's early exit in "Executive Decision", as far as cameo deaths go.

Yes, I must say that other films in this genre rise far an above what Bone Collector attempted to do. Its not a horrible movie, but its not really interesting.

I just saw it a couple days ago. I thought it was good, but creepy and a little gross in some places (some of the "torture" scenes were like... ... just kinda nasty to think about... anyway... ) . But... overall, yeah, I liked it.
