How much time and how much money do you have? The island is not that large and there is plenty to see from the very North to the very South.

A few years ago i would have been reluctant to call myself irish, but i've grown up a lot since then and if ur talkin to anyone they just see u as coming from ireland and therefore irish.
I'm claiming a multi-identity!!! :ktongue:
I always knew that people from West of the Bann were weird and this post proves it!

Only kidding - good to see you here.

OK - Bed and Breakfast accommodation would cost between £15 and £30 per night. Camping is cheaper but is only advisable at designated sites - prices vary.

Food is not cheap here in the North - a Big Mac, fries and cola is between £3 and £3.50. A restaurant meal - you are looking at between £10 and £20 per head depending on quality.

Supermarkets are plentiful and DIY lunches and dinners will save you a lot.

If you are here for a month, I would suggest that you take a week here in Northern Ireland and do the Antrim coast, then a week down Dublin/Wicklow, a week in the very south between Waterford and Cork, then a week up the West from Galway to Sligo, and Donegal if time permits.

Check these sites:
Northern Ireland Tourist Board

Bord Failte

(I love the name - the Irish language has no word for tourist - Failte means 'welcomes' - so it is the 'Board of Welcomes')

If you decide to come to our wee corner of the island, give me a shout, we could probably put you up for a few nights. When my wife and I went on Honeymoon to Sligo (8 years ago), £400 did the two of us for 8 days, so for a month, I think you would need in the order of £1000 to be comfortable ( about $1600 ). Obviously, you could do it for less if you are prepared to put up with a level of DIY or discomfort.

Hope this helps
John

we were on holiday in italy last yr, and ppl walked up to us asking if we were irish...
we were like..."umm...welll..."! a bit of a cultural identity crisis!

Yeah Mari - the White Rocks are gorgeous. Can be a bit of a problem with yobbos in that area during the summer, though. We tend to steer clear of Portrush during the summer with the kids and go to Portstewart instead.

There is a fantastic kayak trip you can take from the White Rocks (if you have a kayak of course). If you head East, there are lots of little inlets where you can shoot waves. Then you come to Dunluce Castle. There is a cave under the castle that you can paddle into. You can get up into the castle from the cave. You should see the tourists faces when wet people in wetsuits suddenly appear! I did the trip about 15 years ago when I was at college.

BTW - my brother has been to the washbasin. I still haven't had the chance.

In Christ

Thumbs up

yup. im over here in norn irn too (",)
im about 3 miles away from dungiven, which is on the main road between belfast and l'derry if your familiar with that area. absolutely gorgeous in my humble opinion.
my most fav beach around here is benone. really nice and well worth a visit. tis massive and its really clean and well kept. and when youre the length of benone, i would recommend going to downhill and up bishops road to the top of the mountain as the view is absolutely breathtaking. well, when its not cloudy or foggy or rainy or.... you probably get the idea!!!

Yoh! - I'm going to Castlerock for my holidays next week! 10 days of much needed R'n'R so pray for sun for me. Love Benone - it's better than Portstewart, cos it's free.
