| Gathering more interest? It seems pretty obvious that there aren't very many people reading this portion of the CGR message board. So I was wondering ... Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can generate more interest in this 'Scripture and Music' section? I'm the worship leader for my church and just love songs that are based directly on scripture. I just know there are more people out there that write directly from scripture and would love to see and hear more songs related to this. Anyone have any ideas?

| I have an idea why... I have kinda had a heart for music. I've been playing guitar for almost three years. During that time, my passion for music grew immensly. I saw how God could use music. To make things short, I started listening to secular music about a year and a half ago. My parents were strict so I never really did except when my mom was listening oldies in the car. After about six months of the crup, I decided to seek God's calling on music. I took a stand in my "Christian" school on the subject and was put down by the school board for trying to inforce my beliefs on the rest of the school. I've probably done more thinking on this topic than on anything else in my life. During this time, I came to face that music is a thing that everybody loves, but nobody is willing to give it up for God. That's why people try to avoid scripture and music. I believe that most people are afraid of the truth, which could possibly be that God only wants us listening to Christian music. I'm not going to say that it is or that it isn't, but I just think that people may be afraid of God telling them to listen only to His stuff (meaning Christian Music only). It's just a thought. I'm not trying to offend anyone.
In Christ,
Luke...

| a different view It is my experience that when it comes to God's Word that people are intimidated by the awesome task of putting music we creat to something as perfect as scripture. In the music biz, many artists won't attempt to do a cover of a song if it is soo famous because of the way it would be compared to the original. How could something I do ever enhance or do justice to The Word Of God ? I'm thankful that there are those that are able to do it. I'm more of a "storyteller " type of writer. Just another viewpoint. What do you think? |

| I noticed that most of the people on these boards only listen to Christian music-so I wouldn't say they are avoiding being confronted about that. The thing is there is only so much to be said on the matter-there is a spot for song writting so all the writers go there-and it doesn't really leave much to discuss. I don't know if you're understanding what I am trying to say... Also it seems to me that most of the people on these boards come here to have fun with other Christians who share their passion for music. They don't want to get serious-just joke around. Which can't be wrong... |

| I think people don't post here because there is substantial
overlap with the songwriting forum.
I have actually written many songs directly re-telling
scripture passages, stories or messages.
I've done: several Psalms, The Prodigal Son, Last Supper,
Gethsemane, Jesus' passion & death (Blood & Tears)
and The Great Commision.
For me my learning is complete when the song pops
out because the song represents my understanding
of the scripture. I find doing songs like this very
challenging sometimes (the Last Supper was very hard
because Jesus' basically summarizes His entire ministry).
Some are easier, like just putting a few verses of a Psalm
to music. Hard or easy the end result is always rewarding. |

| What about using this forum as a scriptural study of the Pslams you could maybe start with psalm one and get peoples opinions on it like how it may have sounded are there any songd that heave already been written that link to this psalm, what do you think the psalmist was saying, waht does the psalm say to us today, did anyone else in the bible make a quote from the psalm or is it prophetic etc..
In fact i think i might just start one right now.

Check out the songs from the new CD.
The things we laugh and joke about
Are the things we scream and shout about
And the things we rip and tear apart
Are the things we held closest to our heart.
