That's awesome! I will have to add Crater Lake and Alvord Desert to my list of places to go! (its like when we moved here and people heard I was from Cali. and they'd always ask if I had been to the Golden Gate Bridge or the redwood forest...nope.) So yes, Crater Lake and Alvord Desert!

I'm not sure I'd make the trip just to see the Alvord. I mean, it's clear across the whole state for 10 minutes of "hey, this is pretty awesome." And then... "ok, it's a flat desert. I'm hot, let's get out of here."

But if you made plans to hit some other sites, along the way, it would totally be worth it. And I don't know if you saw it on the Fields page I linked, apparently they have world famous milkshakes.

(That's a in-joke from another forum I frequent. It refers to the Tae Kwon Leap.)

Just spent my 2nd week at the Methodist camp at Wallowa Lake for Woodwind camp. Beautiful place...

It really is beautiful up there. One summer we drove from Pendleton up to Wallowa Lake, then we spent the day in Joseph, and then drove to (I think) Hell's Canyon and then looped back through the Columbia River Gorge. I'll have to look and see if I can locate my pictures.

Those of you talking about going to Crater Lake...TOTALLY worth it. Andrew, BEAUTIFUL place for a photographer, such as yourself. Chris and I love it there.

We're in Rainier, Oregon btw. Right across the Columbia from Longview, WA.
