| Yep, I'm from Oregon too: Born in Burns, raised in Diamond, went to high school in Crane, went to college in Eugene, lived in Bend/Redmond for many years, moved to Boardman, and now in Lakeview. |

| My best friend in college, was from Albany. We used to tease her about the smell. She'd always get mad and say "Albany doesn't stink. That's Millersberg!" |

| Ha, I wouldn't blame it on Millersburg! Well, actually I would, but its basically Albany anyway! But on a cold winter's day, you walk outside and are overtaken by the smell of the Weyerhaeuser paper mill and the Wah Chang steel plant. Its a little funky...but you get used to it! |

Absolutely, Oregon is gorgeous! There are many good places to see Oregon's (west side at least) beauty. I suggest HWY 34 to the coast. Or HWY 36 (from Junction City) to Florence (the coast also). HWY 36 is a super fun drive! |

How about the Painted Hills? Or Wallowa Lake? Ever seen the east side of the Cascades? Let's not forget Crater Lake. What about the Alvord Desert? Multnomah Falls?
What have you got in the valley? Some green and a whole lotta rain. You really need to travel the state more. There's a reason people risked it all to come here.
Now if the politics weren't so bloody liberal.

Reason: because east and west are very different things

Oh, I have been to Multnomah falls! I've actually driven most of the Gorge. The Gorge is really pretty! And whoa, where is Alvord Desert? It looks awesome! I do need to get out more! Maybe I'll just go some week and tour the east side. I love the green though! It is a nice change from the desert of Cali. I lived in before! Quote:

| I drove up to the top of multnomah falls in a right hand drive car and it was a bit disconcerting. Those cliffs are a long way down and the road is very narrow.
I really, really want to go to crater lake. Apparently there are some cool caves to hike in oregon as well. |

The Alvord desert is over by Fields, Oregon. The Steens Mountain meets the desert floor on the East side of the mountain. It's pretty spectacular. It's so flat out there that they do a lot of speed tests. At one time, the fastest land speed records had been set there. Don't know if they still stand.
Redbaron, there are some really interesting caves in the Bend area. Some of them are hiking friendly, others aren't. The Arnold Ice Caves, last I knew about them, you couldn't even get into them, the ice was right at the entrance. I guess they used to get ice from there in the pre-electricity days. The Skeleton Cave is pretty nice. Sandy bottom and not too narrow, or claustrophobic. There's another one, the name escapes me at the moment, that is an awful hike. The floor of the cave is just lots and lots of rocks, some the size of Volkswagens. The whole time I was in there, I kept thinking that all those rocks had fallen from the roof of the cave. Yikes. And I kept banging my shins and twisting my ankles on all the rocks.
And of course there's the Oregon Caves, but I haven't been there since I was a kid.
Oh, and the Pine Mountain Observatory is out in the general neighborhood of the Bend caves. It's pretty cool. |
