So really, "What is the air speed velocity of an unlaiden swallow?"
It's quite simple:
Drag on a body in a fluid is:
D = 1/2 (Cd*pi*r^2*rho*Vo^2) Cd = coefficient of drag of the swallow pi = 3.1415... r = radius of bird cross-section (approximating as a circle) rho = viscosity of air Vo = velocity For steady state flight, D (drag) = T (thrust), so:
------------------------------
| Vo = sqrt(T/Cd*pi*r^2*rho) |
------------------------------

I've been working on some new pages for that. Just haven't gotten around to finishing them. Shortly they will be up. I'll post once it is. Really have not update my site in some time.

Our Fire Company just got our new ladder truck. This is a pic from when we went to pick it up the other week. It's a cool truck. Got to train on the ladder the other night. Just thought I would share. This thing cost over $800,000.

Do you ever drive the trucks? That'd be amazing, but it'd require a different liscense, wouldn't it. A liscense that costs many dollars, correct?

I've driven our rescue truck, traffic unit, and ambulances. I haven't driven the ladder truck yet (haven't had a chance to practice on it yet). I don't driver the pumpers either, because I haven't take a pump class yet.

In PA all you need is a driver's license and to complete the states Emergency Vehicle traing course. At our station you have to then go through an internal training course. Not sure the rules in other states, but in PA you don't need a special license or anything.

I'll be away from a little bit, going to FL to visit some family. It's freezing and snowy in PA, and we're going to warm FL I'm sure I'll have some pics to share.

Oh. Well, in NY you need a special liscense to drive anything over 18,000 pounds or something like that... I think.

My dad's a bus driver, BTW.

Snow is amazing. How much did you get? We got like 18-20". Supposed to get more tomorrow night.

We got about 10", but it rained a couple of days later and washed it all away. We then got another 3" this weekend, but it rained again on Monday. So nothing is on the ground right now. We may get some more tomorrow though.

PS - I have some FL pics to post later
