(Nashville, Tenn.) December 19, 2002 - Finishing up their successful "Christmas Shoes Tour" with an appearance on "CNN Headline News" (to air 12/21 between 6pm-6am E.S.T. and again on 12/24 & 12/25), Reunion Records artist NewSong prepares to kick off their renowned "Winter JAM Tour" this January. Hosted by NewSong, the 20-plus-city tour will feature Plus One, Carman, Tait, Natalie Grant, Daily Planet, KJ-52 and According to John.
"After this past Summer JAM, we are more confident than ever that God is using this concept to reach people and encourage the church. We're looking forward to the best Winter JAM ever with Plus One and Carman, as we're all committed to sharing the Good News so that people will come to know Christ," says Eddie Carswell, co-founding NewSong member.
The tour is slated to kick off in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Jan.10, 2003, and will stop in 20-plus cities including Greenville, S.C., Birmingham, Ala., Tampa, Fla., Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Okla., Little Rock, Ark., Milwaukee, Ft. Wayne, Ind., wrapping up on March 2, in Greensboro, S.C.
"We anticipate having the most successful Winter tour on the road in 2003." notes Roy Morgan, concert promoter for Premier Productions. "The artist package, along with the ministry and low admission charge will be a huge attraction for church groups and concert attendees."
"The JAM tours have been consistently successful over the past few years and continue to amaze us. Having included artists like the Newsboys, Rebecca St. James, Rachael Lampa, True Vibe and Audio Adrenaline in past years, our bar is set high. This year's line-up creates a lot of momentum with a young, fresh emphasis," says Troy VanLiere, NewSong's manager with VanLiere-Wilcox Management.
NewSong's JAM events have galvanized the Christian music industry, as a diverse lineup of artists such as the Newsboys, Rebecca St. James, Audio Adrenaline, Margaret Becker, Anointed and Michelle Tumes have realized the benefits of a multi-artist bill. The events consistently draw large crowds, some as big as 15,000. 2001's Winter and Summer JAMS drew a collective total of 120,000 people, catching the attention of corporate sponsors like Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
Jesse Butterworth, lead singer of Daily Planet notes, "We are thrilled to be a part of the Winter JAM tour. The line-up for the tour is great for all ages and will help pull in a younger crowd and we are excited to be playing with other great artists. We are looking forward to playing on this great tour."
Traveling the globe since May 1981, NewSong signed with Reunion Records in 2001. During the span of their career, NewSong has released 16 albums and scored 17 No. 1 songs, including '97's record-setting "Miracles," which stayed at the top of Christian music industry trade publication The CCM Update's Adult Contemporary chart for five weeks. The song was named American Songwriter magazine's '97 Christian "Song of the Year." That same year, NewSong was voted "Group of the Year" by Christian music radio industry trade journal Christian Research Report. In January 2001, NewSong got its first No. 1 mainstream radio hit, when "The Christmas Shoes" topped Billboard's Jan. 6, 2001 AC Singles chart. The CBS Network recently made the chart-topping song into a made-for-TV movie, which aired on Dec. 1, 2002, and was viewed by roughly 17 million Americans. Among numerous other accolades, NewSong has garnered seven Gospel Music Association Dove Award nominations during its tenure.
The band is currently putting finishing touches on a new studio project, slated to release in early 2003.
