| DVD's I just bought and stuff. I just joined Columbia House's DVD club to add to my previous collection of DVD's; a scant 11. Here are the 5 I bought. 12 Monkeys
This was an odd movie and unsatisfying...but excellent. I won't explain the premise here but it deals with time travel and psychosis. Bruce Willis was excellent but I think Brad Pitt stole the show in his portrayal of a mental patient turned revolutionary. Fight Club
This is the other Fincher movie I own besides Se7en and like Se7en it is a gritty film. The movie began to confuse me about 3/4 of the way in until the very end when I was sure of what was going on. This movie was nothing like I first expected it to be. When I saw the trailors back in 1999 in theater I figured it was be a modern remake of Bloodsport. I was wrong. This is not really an action movie. It was pretty good, better than Se7en in my opinion. Meet the Parents
I decided to add some comedy into the mix with this. Good movie. I felt pretty bad for Mr. Focker. Shanghai Noon
I'd seen this movie before I bought it. It was a step up from most buddy/comedy/action/martial arts/Jackie Chan movies. Of course, most Jackie Chan movies are a platform for his martial arts gymnastics and fighting skills. Good film. The Shawshank Redemption
The best film adaptation of a Stephen King story (my favorite author). The story appeared in "Four Seasons" and it was entitled "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption". Great short story, excellent movie. The biggest difference between the two was that Red was a white Irishman in the story. I definately put this film in my favorite movies of all time.

| Good choice on "12 Monkeys." And if you frequent this forum, you should know how I feel about "Fight Club". |

C'mon, let's hear it. Was it an excuse for the actors to play badasses or did it have some type of message?
Oh yeah, wasn't Norton also Durden?

| I'm coming to respect alot of what Zooropa says about movies (though he claims not to like Star Wars)... I'll now have to go rent Fight Club, haven't had the chance yet. Watch with 'rents, or without???
I just added, Bio Dome, and Dashboard's unplugged DVD's to my collection, that and the Band of Brothers mini-series

Watch without. It's likely that they'll misunderstand the film, as it is one of the most misunderstood films of all time.
And about Star Wars, I recognize that it was important for movies in general. I just don't like it subjectively. Not my taste I suppose. |

I understand what you mean, had to watch "snatch" w/o them, they wouldn't have gotten it... well my dad might've, but not my mom.
understand that as well.

Though I did think Terry Gilliam's direction was a bit too strange at times. I thought the story was real interesting. Quote:

| Yeah, Fight Club definately wasn't meant to be anything like Bloodsport. Its actually based on a novel by Chuck Palahniuk . Chuck Palahniuk has written several novels. I've not read any of them, but a friend of mine has and they sounded very interesting. They all deal with different aspects of the psychology of people. Supposedly all of Chuck Palahniuk's books are currently in some stage of development into film. Quote: Meet the Parents

| I thought Meet the Parents was real funny. Robert De Niro doing comedy at his best. For that matter the whole cast was really good. I think both Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are very funny. I hope the planned sequel has the same magic as the first one. Quote: Shanghai Noon

| I really enjoyed this film aswell. It is certainly the best of his US films so far in all regards. As I mentioned above I like Owen Wilson a lot, that helped the movie. I've been a Jackie Chan fan since about when Operation Condor was released in the US. About 5 years ago I had a Jackie Chan webpage. Its still up, it would just take a little work to find it. | I haven't seen this film yet. I've been meaning to for a long time. I just always remember at the wrong times. A whole bunch of people on the IMDB seem to really like this film a whole lot. |

Haven't watched it yet, but did see the deleted scene where Marty makes a pretty homophobic--or at least heterosexist--comment. Ah, the good ol days of politically incorrectness. |
