Nashville, Tenn., December 9, 2002 – Grammy-winning, Oscar-nominated and Dove-Award-winning executive/producer/composer, Tony McAnany, and artists featured on Let’s Roll: Together in Unity, Faith and Hope, were recently invited to a special Focus on the Family Thanksgiving chapel service.
Performing “The Lord’s Prayer” and the “With New Eyes/We’ll Praise Your Name Forevermore” medley from Let’s Roll at the chapel in Colorado Springs, CO were celebrated artists Selah, Joy Williams and James Curlin. The special live performance of “The Lord’s Prayer” will be featured on the widely heard Focus On The Family with Dr. James Dobson radio broadcast December 10. Dr. Dobson’s featured guest for the broadcast is Lisa Beamer, national hero Todd Beamer’s widow and author of the book Let’s Roll.
“During the final minutes of United Flight 93, Todd Beamer prayed the Lord’s Prayer and then, along with Jeremy Glick, Mark Bingham, Thomas Burnett and the rest of the passengers of the flight, showed us what ‘united as one’ really means,” says McAnany, Let’s Roll producer and close friend of Todd Beamer. “My hope is that The Lord’s Prayer will become our country’s prayer of unity, faith and hope, regardless of our individual spirituality. As those heroic passengers showed, those words of The Lord’s Prayer can provide peace, comfort and strength in the worst of times.”
Before singing “The Lord’s Prayer,” the artists’ performance of “With New Eyes/We’ll Praise Your Name Forevermore” was the first time the song was sung in public. Written by an auto mechanic, Ed Tack, in rural Pennsylvania, the song was well-received by the 2,000-plus attendees of the chapel service.
“Everyone joined in singing the praise and worship chorus of the medley a cappella,” said McAnany. “When I first heard him [Tack] playing ‘With New Eyes,’ I knew that this simple melody was someday going to be important. Ed died some years ago from Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), but in these uncertain and trying times, Ed’s words poignantly speak hope, peace and joy. It’s remarkable to me how this unknown mechanic so captured for us, especially as Americans over the last year, the sentiment toward seeing God with new eyes.”
McAnany, a highly acclaimed producer (CHANT, P.O.D., Amy Grant, Jaci Velasquez, Point Of Grace, Jennifer Knapp, etc.), also wrote 14 of the 18 songs on Let’s Roll. A star-studded collection of original songs, the recording features an impressive roster of artists who donated their talents, including dc Talk, Lila McCann, 38th Parallel, James Curlin, Nicole C. Mullen, Wynnona, Yo Yo Ma, Shane Minor, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jennifer Knapp, Phil Keaggy, Jody McBrayer (Avalon), Selah, Chaka Khan, Out of Eden, Mark Stuart (Audio Adrenaline), Plumb, Jonathan Pierce, Street called Straight, Anointed, Congressmen J.C. Watts and Tom DeLay, among others.
In addition to the current and Top 5 R & R hit radio single “Let’s Roll,” performed by dc Talk, the mainstream Adult Contemporary (AC) single from the project, “Don’t Ask Why,” sung by Shane Minor, is gaining momentum. After its first week at radio, the song became the No. 1 most added non-Christmas song according to the Friday Morning Quarterback. It also was the publication’s AC Pick of the week.
“This song, and the whole CD, was inspired by the events of 9-11,” says McAnany, “but it is a ‘9-12’ album. It’s our story as Americans making sense out of tragedy and seeing the hope in it.”
All the proceeds from Let’s Roll will benefit The Todd M. Beamer Foundation. The organization strives “to equip children experiencing family trauma to make heroic choices every day.” Lisa Beamer created the foundation in honor of Flight 93 and “to extend Todd Beamer’s legacy of character, faith and courage.”
