| Yay! My first blog entry. Some background information: My name's Tom or Thomas but most people call me Tom. I'm 13, I live in Georgia, play guitar and piano and am trying to start a Christian band with some friends..READ: TRYING.... We're not that bad though, we just need a little, uh, work. I'm also hoping to take voice lessons because my voice could use some work. I'm reading back over this and thinking, hmm, this is going to be a long entry.
Today was a pretty good day except for waking up at 9pm when sunday school starts at 930. So by the time I got there it was like 10:00 and I had to type out the PowerPoint slideshow for the church service (at 11). So, I missed sunday school. Aaaagghhh.
So then we went to Wal-Mart and got some stuff and I got two new CD's. Newsboys remixes and Weezer (only because a friend said they were great).
Then Zach (friend) came over and we watched the womens NCAA soccer finals - Portland VS Santa Clara, and Portland won. And that's about it.
So, this is the end of my first boring blog entry. Check back soon for another exciting episode of "A day in the life of Flyguy"
I'll leave you with an inspirational quote to muse over:
"If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you."

| Wow, I'm actually posting in my blog. Cool. Hmm, not much happening around here. A friend and I are going to go check out some guitars on Wednesday, looking at (and playing) either the Fender Mexican Stratocaster or the Epiphone Les Paul, but I'll have to play both of them to see which one sounds better (to me at least).
Oh yes - My youth pastor and I are playing "What Child is This" on guitar for the prelude this Sunday, and I'm kind of nervous, but I think I'll do OK. I'm playing the lead section and he's strumming chords. So that'll be fun. I'll try to get an audio clip of it so I can post it on here.
Um, some more info about me - I'm also homeschooled which means I have WAY TOO MUCH TIME to spend on these forums. I'll be going to regular school in High School (pretty soon) but my parents are like "you're going to such and such private school because it's best" and I'm saying "C'mon, I want to be with my friends" (who are going to TCCHS). So that's really bad. But oh well. I'm praying that they'll change their minds cause I've wanted to go to TCCHS for a couple years now.
This is a long post.
Right now I'm wondering if I should post all of the smilies in a row to see what they look like. Hmm....... Maybe not tonight. *sighs of relief from the crowd* Crowd? Huh? What crowd? LOL, I've had 5 views and I think those have all been from me! *sniffle* is anybody there? *sniffle* I'm in my own little world over here.
Our "band" is getting together Saturday to practice some songs. We're not progressing too much, so I'm thinking of just getting us a gig and then saying at our next practice "OK, we're playing *wherever* in 2 weeks." Maybe that would sort of speed things up a bit! At least encourage some people to practice more.
Also our band doesn't have a drummer. This is a BAD thing. But I know someone who knows someone who knows a drummer who is also a Christian! Hmmmmm......
I kinda wrote part of a song yesterday but I can't decided whether I like it or not. The chord progression for it is pretty cool though. Here's a few lines of my inexperienced songwriting:
Don't look back
Don't cover your tracks
Or worry about the things you lack
Just hold on
Life's not just for the strong
God'll give strength and provide
You with it
On the inside
LOL ... I dunno. It sounds kinda wierd and I don't really have music for it, but I just thought of it the other day and I thought I might as well write it down. I can't believe HOW MANY song ideas I've forgotten, so today I got a neat little gadget by RCA.
The RP5010A....it's a little digital voice recorder that can record and play back your ideas and I don't have to pay for tapes. It is very small. So far I've just tested it out, but it seems to work OK. It doesn't work well for picking up your guitar at all, just for voice. But that's what I bought it for anyways, so I really don't care.
This is REALLY long. If you are reading this sentance right now, you are either very bored, or very interested in my life. *HAH*
Um, my parents are painting bookcases in the other room and the whole house reeks of paint thinner. Ugh.
OK, I think I'll finally end this blog entry *and the crowd goes wild!*) .... but I'll be back soon.
I'll leave you with an inspirational quote:
"Weasels may not soar like eagles, but at least they don't get sucked into jet engines!"
Here's a picture of my dog.

| Hi everyone,
Maybe my entries are too long. I'll try writing the next one shorter so it's actually readable! Seeya!

| When you go to the guitar shop you will find that Fender strats are by far superior to any epiphone. At least that is my view on things. Once I ran into an Epiphone at a guitar shop I wanted it had a Les Paul style body but was a hollow body guitar with f holes in it. It was sooo beautiful that I almost got it over my American Strat but luckily logic prevailed. You can get some cool sounds out of hollowbody electrics. Make sure you let me know what you thought of those guitars and what you tried. |

| Hey arc,
Thanks for the info. I like the Stratocaster better anyways, but my friend told me to at least play the Epiphone Les Paul, so I figure, what harm can it do. I really like the Stratocaster I'm looking at though - it's kind of like yours except it's the cheaper Mexican kind (has a humbucker-single-single pickup configuration).
I'll let you know tomorrow how the guitar-shopping went.
Hmm, didn't do very much today, made an iron-on tshirt for our band. I guess it looks OK, but next time I'll probably try cafepress.com.
And of course spent lots of time looking around on the forums. I'm forcing myself to keep this post short....aggh...OK, so that's all for tonight. I'll try to think of another interesting quote :kwink: :
"Remember, only dead fish flow with the stream" - (????)

| Well, I went to the guitar store today. I played the Epiphone Les Paul, the Fender Mexican Strat and the Fender American Tele (which is really out of my price range), and in my opinion thought that the Strat was better than the Epiphone, and I liked the Strat just a little bit more than the Tele because of the price difference (about $350) and the tone, so I'm going with the Mexican Strat. I really liked the Telecaster though, so if I ever get an Fender American series, I'll be seriously considering the Tele.
Well, that's about it, can't wait to get the Strat!

| Hello all...
Tomorrow I'm playing piano at 6 nursing / retirement homes for Christmas, so that'll be fun. I'm having a friend over to spend the night and then on Saturday our "band" will be practicing (or lack therof).
I can't wait until December 20th for two reasons - last day of school, and my brother-in-law and sister are coming with my 11 month old niece for Christmas! Yay! I think that she's crawling all over the place now, so I guess I can't leave my guitar sitting around any more!
I'm trying READ: TRYING to learn Elvish in between school and guitar and other stuff, so when I learn some I'll try to post some! See you all later!

| Yay! TCCHS just won the football game. I'm happy.
Yup, elvish. I've read the first lesson, but I don't think that I'll be able to get to it in between school (and I'm already taking Spanish) and other stuff.
Didn't do too much today. I have a friend over right now, kinda bored. Seeya!

| Hello Flyguy. Cool name. I'm a few names over in the blogs forum and I thought I'd come over and visit. Feel free to visit my blog too. But BEWARE I've posted heaps of pictures so it might take a sec for them upload.
I'm was homeschooled as well. I've graduated so I'm not really doing much now. I am continuing with a few subjects to keep them fresh in my mind before I get shipped off to college.
You have cute dog.

| Hi Fronzel,
Thanks for posting in my blog. Your's is really nice. I need to get more pictures for mine.
Today I played "What Child is This" with my youth pastor for church this morning on the guitar. I think I did pretty good - I mean, I didn't mess up huge or anything.
And this evening I went with a friend to his church and saw Mission (a band from Virginia). They played an awesome concert and it was all about missions to China and distributing Bibles, and it was really emotional. Really powerful though.
That's all for now. See you!

| OK, I am REALLY SORRY I haven't posted in here for a week or two. I've had this awful cold that has kept me from the computer and the forums in general. But I'm back now to wish everyone a Merry Christmas Eve.
Right now we have 4 kids over here and three of them are running around and talking, and all of them call me "Uncle Tom" which sounds really, really funny since I'm only 13.
In other news, I got my beloved Fender Mexican Stratocaster and a Fender 15 watt practice amp. I need a name for it, so if you have any suggestions, please tell me. It's black and white, so I was thinking Bessie or something, but that doesn't sound too good.
Well, I think I have to go now, the kids are letting my dog in our family room and throwing little toys to him that he's not supposed to have. LOL Pray for me guys!
Seeya!
Here's a picture of my baby:
