For basses, or guitar, or amps? Fender all three. Peavey is good for PA gear though.

Yea, i have an old school peavey bass, and its pretty crappy. I play my churches Fender Jazz on sundays. Its really not fair to compare the two, but the fender blows it out of the water. But if your looking for a cheap bass just to practice on, and your on a low budget, maybe you could look at a peavey.....

I have a Peavey amp, and it does pretty well. Better than most Fenders I've heard.

Peavey makes good basses...most of the time.

Excelent Basses Peavey has made
-G-Series (graphite necks, amazing sound)
-BB series (Brian Bromberg sig. model...ahead of its time, like a Parker bass, with a graphite neck (by Modulas), piezos, and stereo panning outs)
-Cirrus basses (Peavey's entry into the high-end arena...very nice basses at great prices)
-MIDIBass/CyberBass (like the BB series Basses, these were ahead of their time. They use a fret-wired MIDI pickup system)
-TL series (Tim (?) Landers sig. basses, high quality 5 and 6 string basses)

Jeff Berlin designed a model for Peavey (Paladium?) that is very nice also...

I would say Fender all the way, but that would be a lie. I like Carvins better than either of them. But between Fender and Peavey Basses, definetly go Fender

The Fender P-Bass is the electric bass from which all others followed. You cannot go wrong with a good ol' American made Fender P-Bass. It's a simple, stripped down, bare-bones, bass. 1 split pickup, 1 volume, 1 tone, and simple construction. Built to last and built to rock. Some prefer the Jazz Bass. I like both.

It is nearly impossible to say a brand is better than another as an all-encapsulating statement. Fendar makes some crappy basses (like the P-Bass...yuk) and some good ones, Peavey likewise has some decent stuff and some crappy stuff. As a rule for the instrument itself I would say Fender is better as a rule, but not always.

And a post above is right, Peavey makes some great sound gear and in addition so decent MIDI and electronic stuff...
