There was also several captains before Pike on the Enterprise. I'm pretty sure a lot of that info is only available in reference books. Especially considering that the century that Star Trek was taking place wasn't really set until well after they started making movies. Its never mentioned in the series.

George Takei's autobio roundly criticized Shatner. So did the other actors, if I remember, though I didn't read through their books.

William Shatner's "Star Trek Memories" seemed to paint a very different image.

Really? How strange...

You're right though, the captians before Pike(april is the only one I know of) are not mentioned in the series. So I suppose that question is a bit moot.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture DVD

I got the Star Trek: The Motion Picture Special Edition DVD a couple days ago. Its pretty good, but the Star Trek 2 and 3 SE's are better.

Menus:

Like the other SE's, this one has cool interactive menus. The V'Ger Menu is particularly cool.

Documentaries:

Most of the documentaries were fairly standard. The history of the film was interesting, but it wasn't anything special. The typical special effects documentaries werent' that interesting. The one documentary that jumped out was the special on Star Trek PHASE II, the dumped second television series. The interviews, as always, were interesting.

Commentary:

The audio commentary was pretty dull. It is with the director and some of the visual effects people. He didn't really say anything that interested me. Actually the directors commentary actually made me enjoy several scenes less. He essentially pointed things out that I thought looked bad.

THE FILM:

This is by far the best version of the film. Previously most versions available had 12 minutes of footage added. This movie was slow passed when it came out, the extra footage didnt' help. This version, however, is the new Directors Cut. Several special effects shots were finished or re-done. Several shots parts were trimmed for passing. Most of the previously added 12 minutes has been taken out. The movie looks and flows much better now. Very cool.

Footage:

Since this is a new cut of the film, the disc features the additional footage from both the theatrical release and the video releases. It also features a few demo reels of a scene that never even got officialy filmed.

5. Who are the Jefferies tubes named after?
Matt Jeffries, art director of the original series and original designer of the Starship Enterprise. I read this in the technical manual a while back and looked it up for confirmation.

Star Trek

Any other Trekkies or wanna-be Trekkies here on CGR? I fall into the latter category. I have never been to any conventions or anything (yet,) but I have seen all the movies multiple times and like all the series (except DS9, but that should go without saying!) Enterprise isn't that impressive, but I hold out hope. TNG and Voyger had bad starts and got better, DS9 had a decent start and just got worse, so I think this might be a chance on the theory. Anyways, live long and prosper. (Don't post unelss you can properly respond :kwink:. Or do, I don't really care)

Heya,

I like Star Trek - The Next Generation being my favorite, with DS9 for second.. I dont see what was so bad about DS9, I liked it.. - on the other hand, Voyager was one of the worst shows ever produced, I HATE them.

My brother calls himself a trekkie, he loves Star Trek. I like it, but I wouldn't call myself a trekkie. I watch TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise. Voyager was really good, and Enterprise has been having some good ones. I never watched DS9, I didn't like it.

Anything after TNG doesn't deserve to be called Star Trek. Especially not Enterprise.
