NASHVILLE, Tenn. – November 26, 2002 -- Five of the year’s top rock, punk and hip-hop acts will join forces this spring on a new multi-artist rock event called the See Spot Rock Tour, which hits the road in February, 2003. Co-headlining the explosive “five-star” lineup are high-octane audience favorites O.C. Supertones and Relient K, joined by critically-acclaimed rock band Pillar, hip-hop head John Reuben and new rockers Sanctus Real.
The See Spot Rock Tour will hit nearly 50 cities between February and May including Cleveland, Ohio; Philadelphia, Pa.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; St. Paul, Minn.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Seattle, Wash.; Phoenix, Ariz.; Irvine, Calif., and more. The tour launches Feb. 9, 2003 and tickets for most cities go on sale Dec. 7.
Created and produced by Alabaster Arts, the See Spot Rock Tour brings together five acts that have individually continued to generate huge underground followings and audience loyalty. “Bands like Relient K receive little or no airplay or shelf space, yet continue to fill concert halls and sell hundreds of thousands of records,” says Alabaster President Steve Thomas.
The See Spot Rock Tour has been defined by organizers as “great artists coming together for the cause of encouraging Americans through rock ’n roll... to celebrate the fact that music can still move the masses for the good.”
“Music made by artists who stand for something good is often ridiculed and marginalized in culture and in the industry,” Thomas adds. “As we fill some of the larger municipal arenas and civic centers in America, the See Spot Rock Tour will demonstrate that this form of artistic expression has a valid place in the public square.”
Marketing efforts for the See Spot Rock Tour already include promotional partnerships with Youth for Christ USA, EMI CMG, Interl’Inc and Compassion International. National street teams involved with Tooth & Nail, Gotee Records and the individual bands will also work together to promote the dates in each tour market across the country.
With more than 1 million albums to their credit, The O.C. Supertones have appeared on MTV’s “120 Minutes,” CNN and have been featured on the cover of Pollstar magazine. The band recently released its fifth studio record, Hi-Fi Revival, at a successful in-store event at Tower
Records in Anaheim, Calif., with premiere rock station KROQ on hand. The O.C. Supertones have performed in front of hundreds of thousands of people, including such events as Billy Graham Crusades, Harvest Crusades, World Youth Day with Pope John Paul II and Victory 2000 in St. Louis with then Super Bowl Champions, the St. Louis Rams.
As the fastest-selling punk pop album in CCM history, Relient K’s latest, The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek, has scanned more than 160,000 units, and spent 61 consecutive weeks on CCM’s Top 100 chart. In addition to their successful album sales, Relient K’s first headlining tour, the “Back to the Few” tour, is continuing to sell out venues all over the country this fall, playing to more than 26,000 people in just over a month, with 20 sell-out shows and counting. In addition to main-stage performances and enormous merchandise sales at Creation East and West, Kingdom Bound, Cornerstone and more, Relient K also played two major U.S. mainstream music festivals this past spring, including the “Skate ’n Surf” Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Flicker Records’ rock quartet Pillar released its latest album, Fireproof, in May, landing at No. 4 on the Christian Retail Chart during the project’s first week of sales. In just six months the album has already generated three No.1 singles on R&R’s Christian Rock radio chart, with the title song holding that position for 11 weeks in a row. Pillar has been wowing audiences with its high-energy, adrenaline-pumping performances throughout the summer and fall on its 30-city Fireproof Tour and the Festival Con Dios.
John Reuben's 2000 debut, Are We There Yet?, set the pace as the year's best-selling rap album for powerhouse retail chain Family Christian Stores. Reuben's universal style cracked no less than three different radio formats, even scoring the year's top single on the hip-hop radio charts with "Do Not" sitting at No. 1 for 14 straight weeks. Reuben recently returned to the rap ring with his fast-hitting, critically-acclaimed follow-up, Hindsight. Following the album’s successful release, Reuben hit the road on tour with fellow hip-hop/urban artists TobyMac and Out of Eden.
One of the most sought after new bands in Christian music, Sanctus Real originally caught Sparrow Records’ attention and was eventually signed to the label following its impressive win of Clear Channel WIOT- FM’s “Best Band” contest, where the band beat out 75 other hopefuls. With over five years of touring and three independent records already to its credit, the Toledo, Ohio-based band teamed with producer Pete Stewart (TobyMac, Tait) to fine tune its brand of aggressive, melodic Rock and Roll for SAY IT LOUD. The group recently appeared on the Festival Con Dios, and has already built a significant fan base through performing in churches, clubs, bars, coffee houses and any place where they could spread their positive message of hope and faith.
