I do not know if this is the gospel truth, but it sounds good anyway...
Years ago, Jimi Hendrix was doing an appearance on the Dick Cavett (sp?) show and Dick asked him, "How does it feel to be the greatest guitar player in the world?" and without batting an eye, Jimi said, "I don't know man, you'd have to ask Phil Keaggy."

That was a pretty good recommendation. Peace

BTW, I think Steve Vai is the best secular guitarist...ever.

I don't know, I didn't read all of them. But I if I was a betting man, I'd say it was Hendrix, Because I know he appeared on Dick Cavett several times.

Hi Kid, I got the same stuff from my dad only he didn't like Elvis and the Beach Boys, he wanted me to play big band music! Just don't play the real radicle stuff when he is around. If all you are playing is metal, you should listen to some older rock from the 70's and 80's if you can stand it, there is a lot of good Ideas in that music, metal came from that muiic the way Rock of the 60's came from Blues of the 50's and so on. I'm 50 years old and I still ROCK, I go out and play gigs on the weekend and work for a phone company during the week. I don't play Metal, I play 60s, 70's 80's, some 90's Rock and Blues, stuff you can dance to. Try not to upset your dad, he's just worried you will go deaf or go off the deep end listening to bad lyrics, maybe learn some old rock and play it for him, he might be nicer to you about it.

I also play worship music in church and other Christian Rock.
Tony

HAHAHAHA , sorry I can't hear that phrase without thinking of American Bandstand. Anyway, yeah whoever the metal guy is, learn some beatles, Ccr, grand funk railroad, old school stuff like that. I have yet to see a guitar player who doesn't love riffs like that in "Day Tripper" or "Up around the Bend" or other songs of the like. I'm 18 and like pretty much all rock (ok not all, there are some bands I don't like but you know what I mean) and my dad hates the new stuff too so I can sympathize with ya.

Oops, I didn't mean for it to sound like I like funk, I can't stand funk. Anybody with a wah can play funk. Anyway, Grand funk railroad is more of a rock band even tho their name implyes otherwise. You don't like the beatles:kshock: Which songs have you heard?? Try out Revolution, Day tripper, paperback writer, Here comes the sun, and Srgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band. If you've heard those songs and still don't like the beatles, then I think you might consider consulting a physician

I had heard the Hendrix saying Phil Keagey was the best thing too. I agree. Hope that younger Christians get an appreciation for his ability. A listen to "Time" is a good wayto hear him at his best!
