buying a djembe...

I am looking at buying a djembe soon. And suggestions for brands and places to get them? I have about $200 max that I would spend. And I have heard the Remo ones are good (and cheap.) And I know a couple people that have them, so so far that is what I will be getting. Unless I find another real cheap one, or someone tells me they suck, or something.

well remos have a pretty good sound.. BUT.. they are not real wood or skin so you don't get as natural sound as another brand.. personaly i prefer a natural skin.. but its mostly in just your preference...

I've got a Remo and it sounds great. Be careful of some of those djembes. They have a goat skin tacked across the rim for a head. I can't see myself skinning a goat, tanning the hide, trimming it to fit my drum, and then tacking it back across the rim.
Not that anyone actually does that (who knows?), but the head changes on the Remos have got to be easier than that! Anyway... the synthetic heads are manufactured to get a realistic "skin" sound. A lot of pros use 'em so they gotta be okay.
