8 Mile

Surprisingly, I find myself very much wanting to see this movie. I am no fan of Eminem, but the trailer for this movie had such a raw energy about it that it sold me when I saw it. And Eminem may be basically playing himself, but from what was shown in the trailer, he can actually act. Also, it received good reviews at the Toronto Film Festival so I think we may have our surprise gem of 2002 in 8 Mile.

It might actually be interesting. Except, I've heard that they tone him down a little. He's not quite his usual abrasive self.

I remember reading something about it. Something tells me they didn't actually film it where it was supposed to take place, hehe. 8 Mile is the road in Detroit, MI that divides the "west side" from the "east side", or so I've heard. I've never actually been down there myself, but being even downriver was scary enough, hehe. I only read about it in Newsweek i think it was, so if I can find a trailer online, i might download it.

I saw the trailer for this today, and I was very surprised. My fiancee and I looked at each other, and we both said, "That looks good!"

I don't think 300 obscenities constitutes the cleanest movie out there..... Have you heard of "The Santa Clause 2"?

This movie made $54 million in its opening weekend. Its the 2nd highest debut for a rated R movie behind Hannibal.

What is the world coming to?

What do you mean? Not a fan of eminem's music? Me either, I was just wondering what you were dissaproving of. By the way, I changed my mind about the movie after I realized that I really didn't feel like watching a movie about the life of Marshall Matthers.

Pretty much. I'm not really into rap, so I wouldn't feel justifide making any statements about his talent, but from what I've seen/heard he doesn't seem that clever to me. His behaviour, lyrics and image seem to exist purely for the shock value. Four years ago when "My Name is" first came out, I assumed he was just a one hit wonder, but clearly he is a cultural phenomenia.

I expect it to open to a normal sized opening. It has a near record breaking opening. I understand some of those people thought it would be an intersting film and aren't fans, but I a whole lot of those people are just dedicated Eminem fans.

I think that just goes to show how many real, dedicated fans Eminem has. $50 million on opening weekend is astounding for a movie that isn't a major blockbuster.
