| Relient K and Blink 182 sound nothing alike except they're both punk rock bands.. vocals are different, songwriting style is different, RK has 2 guitarists, RK has Dermike, Blink 182 has faster songs, RK doesn't swear every other word. That's like saying that Eminem copies Nelly because they both rap. They sound nothing alike, they're just the same type of music..
and plus, who's to say they were copying Blink 182, if they were copying anyone? Blink 182 isn't original and they could just as easily be copying MxPx or any other band.. |

HAHAHA!!! That wasn't funny...Relient K Rocks They have a lot of talent in case you haven't ever heard any of their music they have some of the most clever riffs and lyrics out of any bands I've heard so if you wanna get on here and talk about how much talent RK doesn't have then go somewhere else...Don't get on a forum dedicated to RK and diss them bro...Anyway your right on about Blink...and No they don't sound ANYTHING ALIKE!!!

| Yet another Relient K / Blink 182 debate, what fun!!!! Seriously though, beside the genre, the two bands don't have much in common at all. I'd say more, but I doubt that elaborating right now would do little good for this topic.

| anyone who says this, hasn't listened to enough of either band's music... there are a few RK songs that sound like Blink songs (sadie hawkin', my girlfriend...) but other than that, they sound nothing alike...
RK has much more maturity as well, and Insane man, you ever listned to RK???

Relient K is a VERY talented band. They're songs are not just power chords. they have some really cool solos and riffs that I doubt you could write. Oh, yeah you're just a drummer I forgot. And like opie said, don't come in here and dis RK.
And, how could RK possibly be considered a christian blink? Blink does just play power chords with an occasional stupid riff, and they can't harmonize vocally half as well as RK with sore throats. |

| Hullo my fellow rk fans...
Have you ever heard blink 182's song "dammit"?
It is identical to the intro to "pressing on".
I do believe blink's song came first though.
Check it out.

| relient K is turning more and more into Christian Blink182. Sorry guys, its true. Except for the I Love 80s Song on the new EP, it sounds just like Blink182. Sunday night I went to my 12th and perhaps final relientK concert. They are falling apart. Sickening concert. It seemed like they were CCM's puppets up there. Not to mention probably the worst crowd ever. I have been a die-hard fan since '99, met them manymanymany times, and have countless memorabilia... but they are slowly changing.
BTW they have excellent guitar parts and since you are a drummer I just dare you to play anything that DaveDouglas or StephenCushman have put out on the 2 released records.

| speaking of Cushman, anyone checked out his new band? Narcissus (SP?) supposedly a metal band, I have a friend who said it was good, but was lookin' for more oppinions...
chrispeeper- how are you compairing them to Blink, just wondering as to what aspects of the music, or whatever, and the whole puppet comment... the crowd wasn't all that great at the show I went too.. most people were cool, but there were 10-12 people who were just throwing themselves into people, making everyone else really mad... it was sad

It seems that RK is being dragged deeper and deeper into the CCM mainstream. After they released "Anatomy", people really liked the album and suddenly the band started getting much more publicity. I just hope that Gotee knows what they're doing and doesn't end up ruining the Relient K. But yeah, back to the Blink 182 thing...
ShineN- Do you know which Blink songs sound like "Sadie Hawkins" and "My Girlfriend"?
Chris- Actually, I've heard that the band is going in the direction of songs like "Softer to Me", "Failure to Excommunicate" and "Jefferson Airplane" for the next album so they may be breaking away from their pop-punk sound. Then again, I still haven't heard "Trademark" yet so I could be way off on their next musical step. But there's always hope, right?

| Supa- that's it, I can't name a blink song that sounds like RK, I only named Sadie Hawkins and whatever else I said, because those were the most blatently pop-punk songs on either cd... and if you'll notice all or blink songs (or at least the one's i've heard) follow the same pop-punk pattern
I would say the band is goin' more towards "Jefferson Airplane" than "Sadie Hawkins" while I have nothing against the latter, I believe moving more towards teh "jefferson" and "failure" sound is a bigger musical step for them... playing pop-punk can get monotonous
oh while i'm at it, you can make compairisons w/ 'all the small things' to "sadie hawkins" sure they have their differences but those would be the most comparable I can find right now

What was so bad about it? Reasons please!
Of course they are changing! It's called growing up. We all change.
And what's the crowd got to do with RK?
Please help me understand your rational behind these remarks.
A very confused dude,

| I enjoy relient k, I own their two LPs, so obviously I enjoy their music and like playing a couple songs on guitar from time to time, but I'm definately not biased in musical matters, I'm rather onjective in that department. In regards to the comment about not bashing Relient K here, I think it's anyone's right to give an opinion about a band, especially on a music based website, whether it's positive or negative, Christian board or not. In regards to sounding like Blink 182, they're right about Pressing On being the smae exact progression and sound as the blink 182 song, and the little ska-esque verse in What've You Been Doing Lately is from another song I cna't think of, like EXACTLY the same. Talent wise, I'd say they are better than Blink, and Blink is really horrible live (so says friends and videos I've seen, it's pretty ugly) but Relient K wasn't the most together show the last time I've seen them, and I think they've been less energetic every time I've seen them. I do give them props for the vocal melodies and harmonies, which are above par, but on the whole the music isn't much different than every other pop-punk band out there. Also, the lyrics are sometimes sarcastic, or satirical, or even use irony, but there's much better out there.
Shalom,
Corneilius

| That was a very well thought out post, congrats!
You say "there's much better out there" I don't think anyone here would disagree with you, that's not the subject that's being debated right now. Also no one ever said we couldn't debate, we just thought we should not resort to comments like Insane_Drummers. Who said they have no talent, which is completely untrue
Also, just because you use the same exact chord progression in your song, doesn't mean you're copying, or even sound like another person who uses that same song.
Another question, you own both cds how can you say that thier music isn't much different then basic pop-punk when you have such tracks as "For the Moments", "Less is More", "Failure to Excommunicate", "Softer to Me" which are everything but typical Pop-punk??
