Personally, I'm inclined to hand held camera, shooting on loacation, and original sound, which I think is the basics of the Dogma Manifesto or somthin like it.
The biggest thing to avoid is cheesy acting. You can dig up some amazing props and what not for a pretty cheap...Airsoft pistols are great, because they look so real, although since it's a romance, I don't know how much that's going to come into play .
right now I'm working on an short (25 min.) action film with a guy from church. You can check it out here. I'm the guy with the camera all the time. And at the end where there is a shot of 'the kids' I'm the guy.
