like, should you trade one in for the other???

Maybe... unless you could get more than the fat strat is worth by simply selling the hamer, and all this provided you really want to get rid of the hamer...

Brian,
I feel your pain. I have a jackson with a floyd on it. At first I dispized it. then I decided it couldnt be as bad as I was making it. So I started to research hoe to set it up. and although tuning is still tedious, it does stay in tune for about 3 weeks just making slight adjustments using fine tuners. Restring is tedious, learn as much as you can about it befor eyou ditch it.

although I will admit my new guitar does not have a trem on it...

oh yeah if you dont already have one get a decient electric tuner, well worth the money when tuning is such a process. besides how do you tune to one string if every string you tune pulls the first out of tune...lol

heh billikenn, I think i figured it out last night. It only took me about 15 mins to tune it this time lol. I start tuning from the center and work my way out. I still hate it though

here is how I tune (using an ele tuner)

Dont forget to get fine tuners into middle position befor eyou start...

unlock entire nut.
Tune Low E
then tune A
then low E
then usually A s still in tune If I started close enough otherwise repeat until Low E and A are in tune
** note - do not worry about getting it exactly in tune at this point - just close

now tune D
then Low E
then A
then D

until all in tune ( still not necessary to be perfct)

now G
E
A
D
G

Then B
E
A
D
G
B

then High E
Low E
A
D
G
B
high E

NOw is time to tune as well as you can with the machines Except Low E, D, and B should be a little flatter then the rest whcich are only a little flat.

Tighten lock nut, notice Low E D B came up in tune slightly because they are the thicker strings of each pair and get more pressure from the lock...

now start at Low E and tune with the fine tuners until all is well....

that should help alittle - you start at the low strings because the higher strings have less effect on the other strings tunings...

what don't you like about your hamer? Just curious as to why
you want to trade a usa made hamer for a low quality fender
strat. If you want to get rid of it try the hamer fan club message
board. http://www.hikarate.com/cgi-bin/hfc/dcforum/dcboard.cgi

do you lik ethe guitar otherwise? because I have heard of an aftermarket part that locks the floating action of the bridge. You would not have any trem but it may be worth lookin into...

JP

also what kind and guage strings are you using. some strings dont work well witha floatin bridge. And did you stretch then properly when you put them on. Once everything is set uup you should not have to unlock the nut ofr along time...

cloatz i don't like my hamer because it has a floyd rose tremelo that i never use.

bilikenn the guitar stays in tune perfectly but i like to switch to open e tunings a lot and to open d tunings and stuff like that. The floyd just doesn't correspond though.

I'd go for the fat strat. I have a standard strat, and I tune it about once a month and it does not have a floyd rose. but it does have temelo....anyway go for the strat

Heck ya!

Sell that piece. Get the Fat Strat. It is well worth it. You get a much warmer tone out of that than you do a regular Strat. You will be very happy with it. I hate Floyd as well. I hate tremelos in general. That is why my next guitar is going to be string thru.

My list of why floyd rose sucks...

in my opinion:

1) Deeper cutout cavity for springs and bridge = less wood = less resonance = less tone.

2) So hard to tune

3) String changes

4) Hard to rest hand without making an effect on the tremolo

And i don't even own a guitar with a floyd! (And I never plan on it)

don't ya hate it when there's a guitar that's perfect except for the fact that there is a floyd rose trem on it?? i do.
