Emmitt Smith

From Yahoo sports:
Quote:
Emmitt Smith usually plays his best when there's a lot at stake. Smith did just that Sunday with his best day of the season, rushing for 109 yards at home and ending Walter Payton's 18-year reign as the NFL's career rushing leader.
Pretty cool I think. I remember watching him and the other Cowboys back in the early to mid 90s when they were simply unstoppable.

Yeah, against the Seahawks. Not that cool...haha. Actually, I'd rather watch him break a record than see the Seahawks win, because they are a lousy team anyway LOL!.

yeah, like travis, i remember watching the cowboys in their prime and they were so unstoppable. Now its very hard to watch them struggle each week, but I'm glad Emmitt got the record. He really deserved it.

Ahhh, I've never been a fan of Emmitt, but he's been good... If Barry Sanders wouldn't have retired early, I don't think Emmitt would have ever touched the record, but that wasn't the case.

And Elijah, you are right, the Cowboys are still unstoppable. There's no way to stop them from losing There's also no way to stop them from being arrested on drug related charges.

So tell me, when was the last time someone from the Cowboys got in trouble with the law? And about Barry Sanders, i hate it when people say..."If Barry didn't retire.....". Well he did retire, and i'm not sure if anyone really knows why. If he really wanted the record bad enough, he would've kept playing being so close to getting it. I'm glad he didn't pass Walter Payton since he obviously didn't want it bad enough, i mean, it's about the best record a running back can hold. Walter Payton himself said that if anyone was going to break his record, he wanted it to be Emmitt Smith. Now i'm not bashing Barry by any means....he is a great running back and would've broken the record if he kept playing, but i don't think he wanted it as bad as Emmitt did if he could retire being so close to breaking the record.

If one assumes that all a running back should want to do in the game of football at the professional level is to break the career rushing record, then you have a point. However, I'm sure that many players are motivated by many different things. From what I recall, I don't think Smith really "wants" the reward all that badly either. I've seen interviews of his where he just says that if it happened he'd be happy but it wasn't his sole focus.

So, due to these interviews and the standard you have already stated, does Emmitt Smith "want" the record bad enough, or should I be mad that he got it?

Barry needs to come back, beat the record, then leave again. or stay, but go to a better team.
