| Christian Punk? can christian and punk really go together? or is that something we define it as because that is what the world considers it? why don't we call it christian skater or something. don't get me wrong I love the style of music Relient K(best band ever), MxPx and so on. but ever since I found the defenition of the word in it's slang term like we use it it has bothered me. let me know what you think. |

| punk2 Pronunciation Key (pngk)
n.
1. Dry decayed wood, used as tinder.
2. Any of various substances that smolder when ignited, used to light fireworks.
3. Chinese incense.
adj. Slang
1. Of poor quality; worthless.
2. Weak in spirits or health.
Well, I don't personally think that there is anything too wrong with it. I mean, if you go off of this definition, then it doesn't quite fit, but the slang words we use for things don't seem to really fit that great anyway.
Slang is funny because it usually means what you mean for it too. Wow, that is weird to say. In other words, when I say someone is punk, I think of the way they dress. And maybe the who cares type of attitude they display. That isn't so bad I guess. I don't use punk as a derogatory term, so I don't mind it.
If you do, then you may not want to use it.

| I guess it depends on the type of dictionary. I know what you mean about using it in your own terms. I do that to. in my dictionary the slang term is something that I don't think is allowed on this site. so that's why I said that. e-mail me if you want to know more details. batman15_58@Yahoo.com.peace:kcool: |

Most slang words, especially ones used to refer to musical genres, are merely labels for a particular kind of sound. I mean, rock-and-roll is a term that originally had a not-so-nice meaning, but we have no problem calling AudioAdrenaline a Christian rock-and-roll band. Why should punk or death-metal or any other genre be any different?
hope that made sense.

Nate

Like I said earlier, it is only a name given to a particular sound or style of music??? Certainly you don't think any particular kind of music or any particular sound is un-Christian??

| I see where you are coming from with the whole thing about people not being able to tell the defenition of the words they use. isn't that kinda sad to know that? I personally don't like to use term. I usually call it skater or something else that I don't really know the meaning but I know the word isn't really bad. thanks for the info it really helps kinda clear it up.thanks. |

| LOL.. well.. um.. rock has nothing to do with music... it's a stone.. but you use that to define music... why should punk be any different? no style is inherently band... so christian punk is just fine

| And words vary by culture. Faggot can be used to describe a piece of wood in England, fagged means tired, bonnet means hood of a car, etc. etc.
Mainly a word is just a word. Period. Punk, used in the context of music, is commonly accepted as a genre of music, not something else. |

| Christian Punk can very well be very Christian. Punk describes the kind of sound. Not the lyrics. And the lyrics are what matter! Death metal....It can be Christian, I strongly agree with that, but whoever named it must've been some Satan worshipping drug addict or something.
