What about the Raptors? No team would have been named that pre-Jurassic Park. Really, naming a team after a dinosaur no matter how vicious is kinda dumb.

The Expos always bugged me. Marlins...

The fact that their is a basketball team in New Orleans and it can't be called the Jazz because a team up in Utah (the antithesis of Jazz) is using it irks me. On top of that, while they are called the Jazz, they seem to have a mountain range on the front of their jerseys. Why? Mountains and Jazz. *sigh*

*history lesson*

The Jazz are from Utah for the same reason that the Lakers are from Los Angeles. They moved from a city where the name made sense. The Jazz from New Orleans, and the Lakers from Minneanapolis, MN. Ironicly, the brand new residents of New Orleans (for basketball at least), are called the Hornets. There are not hornets in New Orleans.

I have said for a long time that basketball teams should have to leave their name behind when they move if it is only geografically suited to their former home.

Yes, I know. I think it is stupid the Jazz still have the name when they are no longer in New Orleans. The Hornets should be the Jazz, like the Jazz were when they were in New Orleans... I agree, the name belongs to the city.
