It would help if you were more specific. What kind of movie do you want to make? Is the movie being made just for fun to show your friends and such or are you trying to make "professional" film?

You'll need to have some way to edit the film. Since you are planning to film on video tapes you could do VCR to VCR but thats very sloppy and out dated way to edit nowadays. Editing with computers looks a whole lot better and is much easier to do. Digital Cameras can make that even easier to do, not that video is difficult these days.

Depending on location and the quality you expect to obtain, you will need lights for the set.

Like I said, telling more about the movie and you expectations will help.

i'm doing this for my english class, but i want it to look semi-ok, not like a professional thing, but i don't want that amateurish feel to it. I'm planning to edit it on the computer and i'm not sure what software though. It's mainly set inside a home and outside the same home, but there is a scene in a movie theater. I'm not sure how to do that one. anything else you need to know?

Well, when making a movie what you need to understand that it takes a while. And the more people and stuff in a scene the more that can go wrong. And if ever scene has like 5 people, you're going to have to be able to get all 5 people to join you for filming.

Your movie will look at lot better if you don't just put the camera on a tripod and film a scene. Choose angels for whatever your doing that work best. Between scenes try and have transitions. That way it isn't just scene to scene to scene to scene.

Good editing software is rather expensive. My video capture card came with software that works. I've heard that I-Macs come with something called I-movie. But I don't know a whole lot about software.
