(Nashville, Tenn.) September 23, 2002—Ardent Records’ top Rock band Skillet is currently featured on the youth-focused Billy Graham Evangelistic Association interactive website,
www.passageway.org.
In the feature entitled “Aliens, Terrorists & Marilyn Manson,” Skillet explains the concept behind their current, best-selling and critically acclaimed recording, Alien Youth.
“Alien Youth is all about having a vision for our generation,” says Skillet front man, John Cooper, on passageway.org. “I want to provoke people to think we really could rise up and take over the world for Christ in a passionate way. I think a generation radical for God would really be alienated here.”
Web-surfers can further delve into bands concept behind the album as Skillet member Korey Cooper further explains the concept in a link on the site to an audio response. Additional audio responses from both John and Korey include “dealing with those who listen to Marilyn Manson” and “the terrorist attacks of September 11.” Also available for download is a special recording of Skillet’s No. 1 CHR hit song, “You Are My Hope,” mixed with clips from the National Prayer Service held September 14, 2001. This version of the song became an anthem of peace following the attacks of Sept. 11.
Along with the feature content, Passageway.org provides the opportunity for the thousands of web-surfers who visit the site each month to post a comment on the story. The Skillet article sparked numerous comments from fans; both new Skillet listeners and die-hard “pan heads,” as the more zealous fans refer to themselves:
“Ever since I started listening to their (Skillet’s) music, my life has been enriched ten-fold,” notes one fan. “It’s hard to be a Christian teen these days…Skillet gives me a little relief from all that stress. Their music helps me to get my mind where it should be—on the grace of God our Father.”
Another writes, “Skillet is beyond cool, beyond exciting—they are remarkable! The first time I heard them I couldn’t believe that Christian music would be this penetrating and heavy! But after listening to them, they have changed my life and the way I live it. I’ve seen them in concert and they are just fully passionate for Christ and aren’t afraid to show it!”
“I used to listen to heavy industrial music, like Skinny Puppy, NIN (Nine Inch Nails)…and Skillet has more passion, drive and substance than all their music put together because it is for Jesus Christ, rather than themselves,” says a new fan.
“Skillet is the most amazing Christian band I have ever heard,” says another new fan. “I saw them at Festival Con Dios in Lakeland, Florida. God’s presence was so powerful and so thick that I don’t think I can ever forget the experience. My boyfriend used to love (Marilyn) Manson. Skillet is now his favorite band, as well as mine, and we are both totally on fire for the Lord! I want to thank John, Korey, Lori and Ben for playing a part in that. You’re doing a wonderful work for the Lord as well as mankind.”
“We are really encouraged to hear from so many people who are taking a closer look, not at us, but at the One who we point to,” says Cooper. “Jesus Christ is the one we want to shine the light on. We want to join together with others out there who are ready to live out the passion of the message and the destiny of what we all were meant to be.”
Skillet is currently touring in support of its most successful project to date, Alien Youth. Debuting at No. 1 on the SoundScan Rock sales chart and No. 4 on the coveted Billboard’s Heatseekers Album Chart, Alien Youth also made its way onto Billboard Magazine’s Top Internet Album Sales chart. The recording has already earned Skillet two Dove Award nominations and three consecutive No. 1 songs, with the current R & R rock single, “Kill Me, Heal Me,” at No. 2 and poised to become the band’s fourth single from the album to hit the top position.
