Steven Curtis Chapman to Perform in NYC at 9/11 Tribute Concert

Nashville, TN…(September 3, 2002)…This September 11th, marking the one-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks in America, Steven Curtis Chapman will perform at “A Tribute to Grace and Hope,” a very special outreach event to be held that evening at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

The concert event, which has been coordinated by multiple New York City churches, was created to provide New York a night of inspiration and hope. The tribute was specifically designed to provide a powerful ability to communicate the balance of respect for those who lost their lives for our country and the hope that we need for tomorrow.

Along with Chapman, “A Tribute To Grace And Hope” will bring in many of Gospel and Christian music’s top artists, including Third Day, Fred Hammond, and tobyMac. Local and national political leaders, including Senators Schumer of New York and Senator Corizine of New Jersey are scheduled to attend, while Mayor Bloomberg and New York Governor Pataki are expected to participate in the evening.

During the tribute, there will also be testimonies shared by a New York City fire fighter and police officer, World Trade Center survivors and local pastors. James C. Dobson, Ph.D., founder and president of Focus on the Family, will speak at the tribute, while New York Knicks’ Allan Houston, Charlie Ward and Mark Jackson are scheduled to participate, as they will perform a unique exhibition at the arena's center court by leading a team of other professionals from the NBA and NFL.

“A Tribute To Grace and Hope” will be broadcast live from Madison Square Garden, which has a capacity of 19,000, on Sky Angel Networks at 7pm EST, will rebroadcast at 7PM PST and will also be broadcast on TBN at 12AM EST.
