| when i say the term jock, I AM talking about your "10%" of people..(or in the case where i live, 80-90%...seriously, i'm not exagerrating at all, it might be worse here than other places...for example, at the high school here, a bunch of the football players got caught drinking at a party...and there were no concequences, because the concequence for drinking is being suspended from playing...and if they had done that, THERE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ENOUGH PEOPLE LEFT TO PLAY A GAME)
so, its probably worse here than most places...

I've only had one real girlfriend my entire life and I've never had sex, so that makes me "gay." But, fighting back doesn't do anything except make them enjoy it more.
[QUOTE] Originally posted by Chip 20045 i think it takes more guts to fling yourself off a cliff riding a snowboard, than it does to dribble a basketball down a wooden court...and it takes more guts to get up in front a big crowd and play guitar and sing music that you gave written, than to get in front of people and play a game.[QUOTE]
You can't base an argument on that with me. Because I've done both. I've been snoboarding, probably not as much as you but I was going down a pretty steep hill because, as I've mentioned, I'm none to bright. Also, I have played music that I've written in front of an entire church camp. It takes alot of mental toughness to do that, but nothing short of Marine boot camp is more physically demanding than a couple of weeks of two-a-days football practice. I know me and my teammates have the guts because we left them spread all over the field.
BTW, well put Mark!

| Intriguing. This is very interesting. I am glad you are talking. I know people who play sports and are some of the best people I know.

BYW. In my opinion, the people who hate sports are the ones who either can't, or don't have the guts to play. | And that wasn't stereotyping? :kduh:
Sports is just like anything else - it's not good, it's not bad, it depends all on what's done with it.
You can be a great athlete without letting your sport become your god or becoming too competitive.
What I can't stand are the former jocks (and I played basketball in high school and college and was a ski instructor for several years, so I understand "jockdom") who either can't move on from their past accomplishments (always looking back on their "good years") or are still ultra-competitive in everything. ("Hah, I just whipped your butt at ping-pong, buddy. I'm still the best!") |
