the heart of worship

i chose "the heart of worship" because of the songs that were listed, it really reflects what worshiping God with our lives is all about

---and i'm kinda surprised that "Shout to the Lord" wasn't on there

All too trendy

If we allow hymns. Id go with a mighty fortress or maybe when I survey though the latter might not be worship exactly.

If we are going for worship that will stand the test of time thats more modern look at Keith green's stuff. And all this from a wierd old school punk

Thumbs up Let My Words Be Few

The best worship song ever is 'Let My Words Be Few'. Now that is a powerful song. If you haven't heard it, you must.

Absolutely and completely CERTAINLY NOT any of the options here. One has to be immensely shortsighted to believe that any of the five songs here, all written within 30 years of each other, and 35 years from now, are the top worship songs of all time.

Great idea I'd say Create in me a clean heart, or Oh Lord your Beautiful, (2 of the 5 songs i know how to play on guitar )

I'd say something like "amazing Grace" but the words aren't writen to be all inclusive. I mean, not everyone can sing verse 3, least most kids here in America shouldn't sing it unless they are lying to God in their song

I'd say it would have to be a song that speaks directly about God, because He doesn't change, therefore if the song was true 10 years ago, it will be true 10 years from now. Anything that talks about us humans, is subjectional, it might be true for some people at some times, and not other people at other times.

all wrong

Um...these songs are almost all terrible theology.
I Can Only Imagine---ok, maybe not bad theology, but we already have a
glimpse of what heaven is going to be like, in Revelation. Plus,
it's not like we will be spending all eternity there. That's what the
new earth is soon.
My Glorious---all you ever do, is change the old for new? All God ever does?
Ok, nice song, but really. That's a terrible thought!
I Love You Lord---not sure which one is referred to, but I love the one that
goes...I love you Lord, and I lift my voice...I think of it more of a
prayer for help than an actual reality.
I could sing of your love forever---this one...ugh...what is God's river? I don't
recall that in the Bible. Plus, I think God would like us to praise Him
more than tell Him we could sing of His love forever.
And Heart of Worship---that's pretty good...but I just think it's over used.
We spend all our time trying to focus on Him rather than us, that we
don't really praise him.

My favorite ones are ones that directly express biblical truth, or are taken right out of Scripture. I love ones that are word for word out of Psalms!!!!Wow, taking God's inherent inspired word and singing it back to him. Now that is awesome.

I think your qualms with these songs are a result of misinterpretation and taking lyrics out of context, or ignorance. Don't take any offense, I just have trouble seeing why it is that you are blindly scrutinizing these songs. I'm tired of a few of them and I greatly dislike I can only Imagine but these songs all have good hearts or intentions when it comes to praising God.

My problem with Heart of worship is that for many youth groups it has become the very thing it is singing AGAINST!!!!

as for I can only imagin... isn't the main thing in that song talking about how it will be to be with God face to face?? heh, I can't EVEN imagin that. No matter HOW much the bible tells us, we can't comprehend that.

Are you saying that even AFTER we are saved... we are still unable to actually love God???

It IS praising God if you tell him that He is so great, that you could praise Him FOREVER, cause He'd deserve that much praise. There are people who you praise a little, and the praise stops, cause that's all the praise they deserved.. but God, you could praise forever, and not run out of things to praise Him for.

Quote:
what is God's river?
God deffinatlly has a river..
Eze 29:9 And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I [am] the LORD: because he hath said, The river [is] mine, and I have made [it].

Seriously though,

Psa 36:8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

Psa 46:4 [There is] a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy [place] of the tabernacles of the most High.

Psa 65:9 Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, [which] is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

Rev 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Isa 66:12 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon [her] sides, and be dandled upon [her] knees
but my guess is that the actual song is a poetic feature. Nothing in the bible says you can't be Unique when worshiping Him.

Isa 48:18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:

Jer 17:8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and [that] spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

Cource, I don't think any of those scriptures fit... but my theory will probably cause you to never sing the song again See, I believe the "river" is refering to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, From my experiance, poets like to describe that as a river.
