What about Gibson?

Hey, I'm new here and I just had a thought... It seems like everyone here likes either Taylors or Martins for acoustics. There are like three threads for Taylors on the first page alone. I'm not complaining, I was just wondering. So doesn't anyone like Gibson? Come! You know who you are... we must unite!

btw, I have a Gibson J-180 EC. That's my baby...

I dont like their price tag. A Taylor, Guild, Martin, or Larivee can cost less and be more playable.

BTW—Im not knocking Gibson. I own 2 Les Pauls. I just wont buy their acoustics.

Gibson is doing some great stuff with electric guitars and I don't think they're really spending enough time developing their acoustics. Their acoustics were made for a generation and style that is dying.

Taylors are made for for electric guitar players that want an electric feel on an acoustic and use the whole fret board. The sound of Taylors are better plugged in to a PA system than most other brands. However the acoustic sound might not be as good over all as a Martin in the same price range.

Martins are made for bluegrass and old folk music mostly. They have a good bottom end sound with lots of bass, many
Taylor players would say too much bass. Most Martins are also meant to be played at about the first 3 or 4 frets.

Why don't more people talk about Gibson acoustics? Not many younger plkayers own them unless it was a guitar that was handed down to them. This forum probably has an average age of about 18. That's my guess anyway!

I didn't mind the price that much... maybe it's because I didn't have to buy it. My parents got it for me.

hehe... what can I say? I'm blessed. I'll have to get a picture of it sometime and post it in that other thread, cuz aside from being a good guitar, it's a very nice looking guitar too (in my opinion, anyway )

I'm obviously all about Gibsons and J-45s. Reuben, you seem like my kind of person.

Hey GopherWood, I love your signature! MD is definately the best stuff out there along with Gibson. Although I'm partial to the jumbo body instead of the dreadnaught. I guess I just like the way they look better. But Les Pauls are still cool.
