Christian Movie Resources

I know many CGR members like to be aware of offensive content in a movie before they plop down seven bucks to see one. There are several good sites out there that can help you decide what movies are worth avoiding:

Christian Spotlight on Entertainment - This excellent site has Christian critics examine the movies both for quality and content. There is also a handy rating system that sorts movies by "Morality". Readers are allowed to submit feedback, which makes for a diverse range of Christian opinions.

kids-in-mind Detailed to an extent some would find humorous, this site does a scene-by-scene analysis of anything that could be possibly objectionable in a movie.

PreviewOnline - This site offers "mini-reviews" that quickly summarize the gist of the movie as well as the objectionable content. There are also RealAudio reviews of the movies. Readers can opt to be a Subscriber for more detailed information.

GradingTheMovies.com - Another site with nice mini-reviews. This site closes each review with devotional-type questions for Christian reflection...for example, in its review of "Signs", it asks "Graham Hess says there are two kinds of people; those who believe in a higher being and those who believe in chance. To which group do you belong?"

Other sites:

Internet Movie Database - The undisputed one-stop site for all your movie info desires. If you don't know about it already, shame on you.

Rotten Tomatoes - This site shows what all the critics are saying about a movie, giving you a broad cross-section of "expert" opinions on how good a movie is.

I have a question about the kids in mind website.

Language is a dertimining factor in whether or not I will see a movie, but phrases like: "several anatomical references, several scatological references" don't help much.

I have no idea what either of these words mean. Does someone want to fill me in?

"Anatomical references" will probably mean crude references to certain body parts, and "scatological references" is meaning there are jokes about excrement (put bluntly, poop). The former may be a little harsh, depending on the level of the crude remarks, but unless you have a major problem with a little bathroom humor than you're fine on the second one.

o0o, okay.

So that would cover crude humor basically, but what about actual language? Would that be covered under "mild obcenities"?

Christian Spotlight on the Movies is the best site for movie reviews with a Christian perspective. I am a youth leader at our church and we have a Senior High Movie Night monthly. We use Christian Spotlight on the Movies to check out the contents of a movie before we show it. We also use a device called "The TV Guardian." It edits out every swear word from movies, dvds, tv and anything that has closed captions. Check that out too! It costs about $100, but is well worth it!

haha!

Nah, I don't think they should be banned. They're useful to people who are offended by those words. As long as I don't have to use one I have no problem with it.

ok, hope i don't offend anyone by saying this, but i mostly go to those sites to get a good laugh by their ridiculous complaints.

ESPECIALLY Christian Spotlight. They said Signs was horrible because it shows Mel Gibson in his underwear and that the movie had "insubordination from a child" hahahahaha. yeah seriously, i laugh at EVERY review i read there.
