No, my opinion of the movie has been formed by watching the movie, thinking critically about it and reading informed critiques of the movie/novels such as the ones I posted.
| You are entitled to your opinion. I was only wondering what that opinion was based on. Quote: |
If you want to hear a greater diversity of opinions on the theology of Left Behind, read this thread.
| I read alot of this thread but it started to stray from the topic. Quote: |
Actually, if you read that review, the review explicitly says that although he disagrees with the theology of the movie, he is critiquing it based on its artistic shortcomings:
| I don't believe him. What are we to expect a Catholic to say about a movie based on the rapture of the church? How can a christian use this man's opinion as a source of truth? Quote: |
You are correct in stating that there is a subjective element to the judging and valueing art. But I don't believe it is purely subjective, either; for example, I believe that I can objectively state that Beethoven's 5th Symphony and Bach's St. Matthew Passion are both hugely superior works of art to anything put out (for example) by Britney Spears.
| I understand your point but a loyal fan of Britney's might not. Quote: |
By the same token, I can state that Left Behind is an artistically inferior movie.
| I was originally hoping to have you personally explain the theological problems you saw in the movie.
Your original statement was... Quote: |
And, whatever you do, stay far, far away from Left Behind.
| That left me wondering why you would say such a thing.

You're calling him a blatent liar because he's Catholic, and he didn't like a movie that you did? 1 Corinthians 13 (NASB; emphasis mine) 4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. | And this statement just astounds me. I'm not even Catholic -- in fact, I'm theologically about as far from Catholic as one can get while remaining orthodox -- and I'm offended by that statement. Not only did you imply that he's a liar, but now you act like he's apostate because of his denominational label. Lovely.
By the way: The movie sucks. Any respectable film critic will tell you so. If you want proof, you need look no further than here. Out of forty total reviews, eight of them were positive. Among the positive reviewers were MovieMom, Crosswalk.com Movies, and the guy from Christian Spotlight on Entertainment, and a few other Christian critics.

| Guys... get on topic please. Take the Left Behind talk to the Left Behind threads. There have been a few. (That movie sucks. Kirk Cameron is it's only redeeming factor.) |

| I said I don't believe him. I never called him a liar. I believe that he would have given a bad review even if this was a masterpiece. Quote: |

| I was not wondering if the movie "sucked" or not. I was only wondering what reasons R2 had for giving the warning "Whatever you do stay away from Left behind".

As far as I'm concerned, I'm done debating the merits of Left Behind. As per Art's request, let's try to leave this alone, shall we?

| I find decentfilms.com to be an excellent resource. Their reviews are in-depth and movies are also rated on their artistic merits, which is a nice thing. |

| www.movieguide.org the guy that does all the reviews for that site is one of my old friend's dad. he does very detailed and sometimes kinda harsh reviews based if the movie is moral or not, but he also has good taste, so basically, its a really good site. the only thing is you have to register to see his reviews for past movies, but new releases and movies in theaters, etc. are free. |

| I'm not sure if anyone said this but jesusfreakhideout.com has some movie reviews and even though they add a Christian review they rate the movie on how good it is.
