How does the name "Joy Electric" not instantly give away that the band is targeting the electronica crowd (as opposed to the rock crowd)???
If you bought this album expecting to hear rock or punk or something along those lines, I don't know how you ever came to those expectations. You shouldn't make unfounded expectations about any purchase that you make, only to complain later when the purchase does not meet your expectations. Either a) make well-founded, logical expectations -or- b) don't make expectations at all. But, above all, do not say "Oh... looky, an album by
Joy Electric filed in the electronica section.... I bet this will be some great sounding punk rock!" and then be dismayed when it isn't what you expected. That's ridiculous.
Furthermore, why (with the multitude of demo mp3s online and the ease with which you can preview music at retail stores) would you not LISTEN to some parts of the album
before purchasing it? This would save you the money you spent, and the trouble of reviewing an album that you do understand.
If you like old-school electronica (or even if you just like exotic songwriting techniques), you will love this album. It's not my favorite that Ronnie has ever put out, but it's definitely not my least favorite. It's wonderful. I give it a 9.
In His love,
Nate
