38th Parallel's 'Horizon' Shines with Successful Debut Single

(Nashville, TN) July 12, 2002 –38th Parallel’s “Horizon” quickly climbed to No. 5 this week after an explosive entrance at 17 on R&R’s Christian Rock Top 30 chart just three weeks ago. As one of the fastest moving singles on the Rock chart this year, the new Squint Entertainment rock band’s first single from its July 2 debut, Turn the Tides, continues to garner numerous weekly adds and positive reaction since its release to radio May 31.

“We received calls on Horizon immediately after we started playing it!” exclaims YES-FM, Toledo. “It has a very modern sound that can match anything available in the mainstream.”

KOKF, Oklahoma City says, “Horizon is a no-brainer add. It's Jars of Clay meets Linkin Park. It has top 5 written all over it.”

As selected artist of the month, Z-JAM says, “38th Parallel is definitely a great band with a fresh sound as demonstrated with ‘Horizon.’ And after visiting the station, our staff was impressed with the depth of each member, as well as the band’s entire album.”

"My team knew as soon as we heard this track, that it was monstrous!” says Andrew Patton, dir. of national promotions for Word Entertainment. “This is the fastest charting song in years for Squint. The mass acceptance of the song shows the power this new group already holds."

ChristianRock.Net’s chart also reports that “Horizon,” the No. 1 most requested song of the week, is at the No. 2 spot for spins. Just behind P.O.D.’s “Boom,” 38th Parallel obtained second place only after the single was out five weeks, positioning the band for an inevitable top ranking. “Horizon is a great new song with a fresh sound and tight hooks,” says ChristianRock.Net. “They are one of the most requested new bands on our site."

“We're encouraged by the increasing list of people that say ‘Horizon’ and the album speak to them emotionally, intellectually and spiritually,” says 38th Parallel guitarist, Shane Moe. “The song incorporates so many different musical ingredients. Turn the Tides emerged as a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts and ‘Horizon’ is a significant part of that puzzle.”

“Horizon” will also be featured this summer on Wal-Mart’s exclusive compilation sampler, Sonic Fuel. The song will be included on 100,000 music samplers available August 27 at Wal-Mart stores nationwide. To further amplify 38th Parallel’s marketing support utilizing the hit song, Word Distribution will also disseminate 150,000 music samplers to retail outlets for its national “You’ve Got Music” promotion this summer.

Recently completing a 35-city tour with Skillet and The Benjamin Gate, music fans are also rocking to 38th Parallel’s performances at a number of key festivals this summer, including Creation East and West, Lifefest and Sonshine. Additionally, the band is scheduled to play at several Youth Specialties events this winter.

Squint Entertainment, home to Sixpence None the Richer, 38th Parallel and SoulJahz, is a progressive label focused on making modern music relevant to today’s youth culture. Squint Entertainment is a division of Warner Music Group, an AOL Time Warner Company.
