| i know most of you jesus freaks are gonna hate me for this...but you should really listen to some metal, black metal especially, to hear some amazing drums. New Dimmu Borgir and 95-2000 Cradle of Filth stuff is amazing from Nick Barker, and Strapping Young Lad (kinda psycho punk/metal) is ridiculous from Gene Hoglan's drum work. He also played for Death, Old Man's Child, and a few other big-name metal bands. Other bands with amazing drums = Emperor, new Mayhem, Into Eternity, At The Gates/The Haunted, Dark Tranquillity, Sonata Arctica....yeah...
Sorry but it just blows away all the christian bands i've heard, though i haven't really heard that much other than what i've heard from one of my friends.
btw, i'm makin a metal band of my own...kinda a mix of folk metal (Blind Guardian, Kamelot, Demons & Wizards) with symphonic metal (Therion) and depressing stuff like Into Eternity and Nevermore. both heavy and clean guitars (all currently done by me), fast metal drums (also me...on the computer...till we recruit a real drummer), mostly clean lyrics (nick, with me on lower harmony), a few metal growling parts (me)...nick will be playin keyboards and brad (the kid that used to listen to a lot of christian music but listens mostly to dream theater and primus now) will be playin bass...email me if u want a clip of the song i'm currently writin, i've recorded nearly 2 minutes of it on 2 guitars and got some drums parts though the drums need work and are nonexistant in spots as of right now. it's at 33 tracks right now for 2 minutes...quite a pain to organize in ACID.

| some metal has good drums.. but for the most part alot of metal drummers sound like they have no control over what they are playing and are just randomly bashing bass snare and crashes as fast as they can.
i have a heard a few excelent metal drummers. they still go fast and insane but its not really as just random as alot of metal can tend to be in the way of drums. i prefer a more controled drumming style most of the time.
such as alot of progressive drums have. i love progressive drummin but i don't listen to much progressive. :kroll:
you are true they're arn't that many christian good drummers but i have heard a few who rock on drums.
i don't know many christian metal bands so i can't try to compare them to the bands you posted.. i don't get into metal that much
BTW if you listened to the clips i put up they kinda suck a little compared with what i cna play now. soooo i really need some new ones to put up

| see i think you're thinkin of a completely different type of metal than what i mean...you're probably thinkin of mainstream metal crap like slipknot and the "numetal" stuff that's comin out...some great folk metal bands are Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards, Borknagar = good viking epic metal, and then there's Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, and a bunch of other bands like that. the black metal bands i mentioned (mayhem, dimmu, etc.) and strapping young lad are crazy crazy fast drums, but they also have some of the most technical drummers in the business (Hellhammer in mayhem, Nick Barker in dimmu borgir, and Gene Hoglan in strapping young lad). They will occassionally play weird slower stuff, but for the most part it's fast to keep up with the rest of the music, except for Dimmu Borgir who has moderately fast but very melodic riffs that are accented by the real orchestra that plays on their recordings. |

| yeah... i was thinking kinda a cross between crap metal and real metal..lol.. Slipknot AGH how can anyone like that band i mean get 9 monkeys and train um to randomly bang stuff then BAM a popular metal band. which is a disgrace to good metal.
i don't listen to much metal cuz its hard to find good metal no one seems to be making it anymore. :kroll: :kroll: you never hear it on the radio never hear it anywhere. unless you get lucky and find a good one somewhere. all music anymore is Punk, Nu-Metal and Rap. and bad of all three lol.

| wellllll you see....Dimmu Borgir is a very anti-christian band so it may not be up your alley. BUT, they are amazing. The vocals are traditional black metal growls, cept with eerie clean vocals from Simen Haestnes aka Vortex, who came from Borknagar. Most people wouldn't hear how melodic the songs are and think it's just noise. I dunno. Give them a listen. My favorite songs:
Spellbound (by the Devil)
Sympozium
Kings of the Carnival Creation
Tormentor of Christian Souls
Grotesquery Conceiled
Spellbound is amazing, even though it was before the real orchestra and was all synthed...has one of THE BEST keyboard interludes ever, followed by the same chorus as before but over a simple strummed power chord riff instead of the fast heavier part from earlier in the song. |

| Hey guys. I've been gone for a few months, and thought I'd check back and see how everything was going. Well, I don't mind being embarrassed, so I'm going to put up a clip. I had finished a recording session with some electric drums the other day, and I found this cool sound where the kick drum is actually a bass loop. So I hit record and just kind of goofed off for about 2 minutes. This is just a 56 kbps mp3, which was all I could do to make the file small enough to post, and it lost a lot of quality. There are obviously mistakes in the beat, but I guess it can be kind of fun. Keep in mind that this is the day after I fractured my tail bone, so it was also very uncomfortable trying to record this. The synth sounds you hear are what happens when you hit part of the crash cymbal pad. Oh well, tease me for being a bad drummer if you want, but what's this thread for if no one's going to post clips? |

I named it thrash because that's how I was playing (maybe not really thrash whatever) cause I was nervous and... yeah. |
