| Film Buff Discussion Thread This is a continuation of the recent discussion from the Tool thread on the Secular Music Forum. Since it was a Tool thread we had to stop, but I wanted to continue. Thus a new thread is born. Anyone is welcome to join in. I really liked Clooney in Ocean's Eleven. Ah I just remembered something while typing this! Three Kings. That is definately the best film Clooney has done. No contest. I will definitely see Boogie Nights on your recommendation, although as you have said, many people told me it was a porn movie.
Ah, Scott...the birds. Yes, what an excellent film, in my opinion. I have not watched much Hitchcock, although I did love Vertigo and...um, the "one with the crop field/bi-place scene" (what the heck was that called again?) | I'll give Matrix another view. It will have to wait though. There are far too many movies on my viewing priority list as it is.
Yes, definately see Boogie Nights! I love Magnolia and it is twice the movie Magnolia is. There are so many brilliant scenes. Try and go into it with an objective mind. Ignore the porn issue; it's not a porn movie.
I've only recently started to become really interested in film so unfortunately I do not have much experience with Hitchcock films.
I do plan to check him out as soon as I can get around to it. |

| Wow, if its twice as better as Magnolia, it will definitely get a view.
Hmm, Three Kings. I don't recall ever hearing about it. What genre is it? Who directs it?
Film has been an area I have been interested in on and off. Now that I am taking some time off before I head off to college, it is an area in which I will expand my knowledge. As I have said in the Tool thread, there are several projects that have been in my mind, and I look for the chance to expand on them and flesh them out.
Some great movie websites: http://www.godawa.com/
This is an up and coming Christian director who has a lot of interesting films in development.
This next site is a great site and is pretty self-explanatory. Enjoy. http://www.upcomingmovies.com/

| All I know about Three Kings is that it has Clooney, Mark Walhberg and Ice Cube, and I think it takes place in a Desert Storm type situation.

It is from the great movie year of '99. It deals with Clooney, Ice Cube, Wahlberg, and a chacter played by Spike Jonze attempting to steal gold from Sadaam Hussein in immediate post-desert storm. That's just the setup of the movie though. Its strengths are the great character development and the storyline that involves action coming from story rather than the other way around. It is directed by David O. Russell. If you want a more in-depth description go here. Quote: Originally posted by The Philosopher

Yes, I think it is twice the movie that Magnolia is, but there are plenty of PTA fans that would disagree with me. I just happen to prefer it more. I don't want you to go in expecting tons and then be disappointed. Our tastes are similar, but I don't know if they're that similar. |

| Yeah, I think Three Kings is a great movie, and Clooney did pretty good in Ocean's Eleven as well.
If you guys wanna see a pretty good Hitchcock film, watch "Dial M for Murder". I liked it. It's a good detective-type film, even though you know who the killer is from the very beginning.

| Thanks for the link, Zooropa. One more movie to add to the list. Quote: |
About the Matrix...I think years from now, this movie will be looked upon as the movie that made a breakthrough in visual direction, inspiring the direction of just about every action movie after it, such as Minority Report, and countless commercials. But I will always be disappointed in its climax, where the fate of the world is resolved in a kung-fu battle...typical dumbing down of a movie. Yes, it is a trilogy, but judgjing the the trailer for the second movie, it doesn't appear to be any less kung-fu oriented.
| I could care less about the kung-fu and care a lot more for the themes that run through the movies. Quote: |

| Philosopher, have you heard about Punch Drunk Love? If so, what do you think about it? If you haven't heard about it, go to ptanderson.com and read up on it. A P.T. Anderson movie starring Adam Sandler........sounds very interesting. Also there are now some very bizarre teaser clips on punchdrunklove.com. I urge you to check them out. |

| Wow, what an interesting movie. P.T. Anderson doing a romantic-comedy (something that he hasn't really done before, especially considering Magnolia) and Adam Sandler cast in a role he isn't usually in. All I can say is, it should be fairly surprising, because we will both see two talented people exploring previously uncharted waters (given their screen experience). Thanks again for the links, got them bookmarked.

hmmmm.........I saw it more like he saved world/himself because he got over his own fears...........the kung-fu was great and I've never seen anything like it in any other martial arts genre movie! Lol it was almost my fave part! I thought it was very original! But then, I'm just a biased fan ......can't wait til the sequel!!!! |

| Warner Bros. have just green-lighted a new movie from the director of "Requiem For A Dream."
--- 'Fountain' Flowing with Pitt, Blanchett
Warner Bros. Pictures has given its long-awaited greenlight to "Pi" director Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi epic "The Fountain," which will star Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Ellen Burstyn.
Budgeted north of $70 million, the picture will begin production in late October in Queensland and Sydney, Australia. Fox-based New Regency will co-finance the film.
While the script has been kept under wraps, it's safe to say that "The Fountain" is the sort of film that defies easy loglines. It's the journey of one man (Pitt) in the present as well as both 500 years in the past and into the future. Among the issues it tackles are love, death and immortality.
---
What we have here is a well respected, low budget director being handed $70 M to make a 2001-ish movie. Sounds good to me! It certiainly does sound somewhat similar to the setup of Kubrick's 2001. It should be interesting to see how this one develops. Unfortunately, we have to wait a couple years.
Also, it's good to see Brad Pitt back in a leading role. While I applaud his decisions to do "Snatch" and "Ocean's Eleven," it's about time he starting thinking about his lead career again. |

The imagination it required to come up with some of those sets amazes me. It's been said that Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" made war look beautiful in a sense. Coppola topped that (err...actually Kubrick failed to top Coppola) and made war look like a fireworks show. "Apocalypse Now" requires another viewing, and I'll definately watch it again before it's due back at Blockbuster. |

| I liked Pi a lot, and Requiem for a Dream was pretty good, so I'm sure this movie will be very good since he's got a lot of money to work with.
