Nashville, TN…(June 25, 2002)…Steven Curtis Chapman has once again nabbed honors from the annual BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) Christian Music Awards. Held last night at the company’s Music Row offices, Chapman’s song, “Live Out Loud,” was awarded as BMI’s most performed CHR (Christian Hit Radio) song for 2001. CHR is one of five categories of songs awarded. Other categories included are AC (Adult Contemporary), Inspirational, Rock, Southern Gospel, and Urban Gospel.
Licensed with BMI since 1985, Chapman was also honored at last year’s awards as Christian Songwriter of the Year (sharing the title with Toby McKeehan), and his songs “Fingerprints Of God,” “Great Expectations” and “The Invitation,” all from Speechless, were also awarded.
Chapman’s publisher, EMI Christian Music Publishing (through River Oaks Music Company and Sparrow Song), share with Achtober Songs the award for Publisher of the Year. This is the second year in a row for EMI CMP as Publisher of the Year.
These awards are given in recognition of popularity in the field of Christian music and are determined by feature broadcast performances on American radio and television. The 2002 Christian Music Awards eligibility period ran January 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001.
