My church praise band uses simple chords like that, so I like to throw in the correct seventh or run a little lead improv. . . yeah try whatever you like. when i used to play the open G alot like that i played it 320033 because the extra 3rd really gives it a fuller sound, almost as if you were playing a rolling arpeggio, but not

3x0230 is a Gmin9. its got a minor 7th which makes it a minor 9 when you add the 9.:kduh: :kwhoa:

It's definitely not a Gmin9 because 1. it isn't a G minor chord of any kind (no Bb), and 2. it doesn't have a seventh (no F).

3x0230 has the notes G, D, A, D, E. If you assume it is a G based chord then it is Gsus2add6. Or it could be a Dsus2/G (like someone else said a while back), or possibly several other things depending on the context.

Thanks,

I've NEVER seen 320003 used in ANY contemporary song. That doesn't mean it has NOT been used....

I've found that 320003 is a folkey G major chord. When an open G chord is used, I've only heard 320033 (and yes I often mute the B and play it as 3x0033). This is because of what Paul Baloche calls the "train tracks" concept. The 33 on top of the chord will ring with the most of the rest of the chords in the key. Go to an open Dsus to hear what I mean

320003 to MY ears (just one man's opinion here) sounds amateurish or folkey. I think of it as a "camp fire" chord. I heard Neil Young playing it at the Olympic closing cermony. It fits his style but not much else in my opinion....
