Extol is a really really .. uh.. Different style of a Christian band.

They are basically heavy/death metal style.. with heavy guitar and lots of screaming.

The only reason I bought their cd is because of their band name.. see... back in College a few years ago we had a band named 'Extol' before they even existed.. we were a very different style of music however.

This album is probably the "pathmaker" for all other Christian Death/Black Metal bands. Nad if you do your homework, you will see that another great band formed from Extol. The band Lengsel, formed by Eyestein Holm, was spurred on by Extol's sound. They have found a way to shape the metal style to include such styles as jazz, baroque, and modern instrumental. Ole Borud's melody and vocal skills are unmatched, and Christer Espevoll's throating and mixed high/low pitched screams are unbridled and perfectly formed. All in all, this could quite well be the perfect metal album, Christian or Secular.

Actually, Eyestein Holm was never in Lengsel. The members of Lengsel were Tor Magne S. Glidje, Ole Halvard Sveen and Jon Rober Mjaland. Eyestein Holm quit after Mesmerized and used to have a few bands that played locally in Oslo.
Lengsel, however, is no longer creating material at this moment, in fact all three members of Lengsel have joined Extol with the loss of Ole Borud and Christer Espevoll (jon already being in Extol). Also, Christer is not the singer, but the old guitar player, Peter, his younger brother screams.
