Footswitches

I've got a nice little Ampeg SJ-12R tube amp, but when I bought it, I didn't get a footswitch for it. Now the music store has closed down and i have no way of getting the proper footswitch for it. My question is, can i say get a different brand of footswitch and use it without any problems? It just a basic Reverb on/off and a 15dB Gain Boost footswitch. Thanks

STeve

Here's what I would do:

Go to www.ampeg.com and click on the "Contact" graphic box on the left hand side of the screen. Next, click on "Order Replacement Parts" and then click on one of those hyperlinks that will bring you to a page with a phone number and an email to contact to help you find the nearest service center. ONce you've found what the nearest service center is, give them a call on the phone, and describe what you need and see if they'll send it out to you in exchange for some $$$.

Or, depending on your level of electrical engineering genius, you could download the schematic for your amp, also available somewhere at www.ampeg.com and construct your own functional equivalent.

I know that on my single-funciton switch Mesa Boogie, should I ever forget or lose the switch, I need only plug a 1/4" cable into the jack and ground the tip to the chassis to activate the feature.
That's pretty simple......maybe you'll have the good fortune of having a simple two-function switch.......maybe.

But only mess with that if you really know your stuff on schematics.
