Movies Everyone Needs To See

ok, i got this idea from Zooropa's "movies that shook you up" thread but here is jsut where you post a movie or two that you think everyone needs to see for some reason.

I have several but the one that is certainly at the top of the list is THE USUAL SUPSECTS. i am serious, if you haven't seen it rent it the next time you are within 5 miles of a rental place. also, i would just like to say that i don't really think anyone should put Fight Club on this thread, but i am sure someone will. hehe. the main reason i say that is that i think alot of guys just like the primal fighting in it and are fooling themselves into thinking there is something deep about it. plus, you aren't supposed to talk about it anyway.

I wasn't going to put Fight Club because I don't think it's a movie that everyone should see. But I take exception to your comment about the primal fighting and such. Now I wouldn't call the movie deep, but it's not just some "guy movie" about fighting. For me the fighting the least interesting part of the film. What the movie is really about is a guy looking for answers and trying to find them through various methods. When Tyler enters the movie (the Brad Pitt Tyler) a contrast between comercialism and nihlism begins to be drawn. You've seen what happens from there. In the end, Edward Norton's character finds that neither of them are the answer, but that following your own way is. Hardly what I'd call a mindless fighting movie. I don't know if you meant it like that, but I felt like I had to defend my favorite movie.

HAHA i knew that was coming! seriously, i argue with the pastor and youth pastor and most of the guys at my church about this movie! but if they made it "Knitting Club" and ed norton started a knitting club underground would you feel the same way? but i will concede a little bit. i just wastched the movie again lastnight after i posted this and i actually like the movie up until they start having those guys wait on their porch. you know, right as Project Mayem is starting. maybe i just don't get it but i will point out that critics and movie reviewers are torn between this movie. they either give it 4 or five stars or one. my favorite part is when brad pitt grabs that guy who owns the basement and goes crazy on him. that part is funny.

also, have you seen the Usual Suspects?

1. "american history x" - besides the fact its got great acting,
it a) shows that neo-nazi skinheads are put together just like a cult, and that they should treated by the law just like a cult

b) that racist people ar estill people with feelings, even though there stupid people, they are still people

2. "the outsiders"- this movie not only stays fairly close to the book, it shows that rich DO in fact antagonise the poor, and just how stupid voilence really is

3." dude wheres my car" - cuz its just hilarious

4. "mallrats"- again its just hilarious

MOVIES YOU SHOULDNT SEE

1." fast and the furious"- stupid plot, bad acting, and its about cars for christsake

2." sid and nancy"- terrible interpretation of sid vicous and nancy spugden( or however u spell it)

3. "oh brother were art though" its suposed to be a comedy and its not funny

Yeah I agree that Project Mayhem is when the movie starts to decline a bit. But I think you may be missing the point about the actual Fight Club. The club was started to be a release for the anguish that everyday life brought these guys (until Norton's character went and messed it up, but that's another story). I don't think starting a knitting club would do much to help those guys. So the fight club goes hand in hand with the rest of the movie and was essential to the plot. I haven't seen Usual Suspects but maybe I should.

ok, when i made this thread i meant GOOD movies people should see so please remove all traces of Kevin Smith and Aston Crutcher! haha just kidding. but really, i am talking about movies that are kinda serious or just a work of art, not just your favorite movies.

"oh brother were art though" its suposed to be a comedy and its not funny

it IS very funny. however, i must say that all the people that don't think it is funny think that movies like "Joe Dirt", "Freddy Got Fingered", and "Dude, Where's My Car?" are funny so they lose all credibility.

1. The Green Mile. Good movie, very funny at times.

2. Star Wars - any of them. Some of the greatest Sci Fi movies of all time. Period.

3. Sleepers. A movie that really "shook me up" as you put it.

4. Gladiator. Action packed movie.

5. Lord of the Rings. Nothing more top say.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to ask that Gladiator be taken off the "must see" list. The action scenes are thrilling, but the rest of the movie is just cliche and uninspired. Couldn't the director think of any possible mood to shoot the movie in OTHER than dreariness and boredom? If you want to see a good medieval-type-hero-kills-everyone movie, Braveheart is much, much better.

As for the Fight Club needing to be about fighting to be a "good movie"...of course it has to be. The natural inclination of humans has been to fight in order to acheive dominance and, I suppose, dominance in a lot of circles is equal to having a meaning in life.

I've said it before--Shawshank Redemption is definitely one of the few movies worth seeing.

goodness, i agree about Gladiator. basically, i meant this to be in a well made or movie with a cool ending or revelation, but it seems people must defile it with movies they just think are cool.

i also agree about Shashank Redemption. great movie.

Zooropa, what happened to the Mark Cuban avatar? it was cool!
