If you really analyze it and look at it on an observant level, the movie is so deep and layered that it's ridiculous. That's one of the great things about Kurbrick; he always he a point in even the most minor actions of characters in his movies.
But enough Kubrick talk. I'm turning this thread into the Stanley Kubrick discussion and getting it off topic. |
LOL, there's no denying that it was a meitculously shot movie with layers of symbols and all that...but it's also a plot that moves as slow as molasses and isn't very exciting. Yes, I know that sounds like the typical attention-deficit viewer...but a good director (and must-see movie) shouldn't let all his vision and meaning weigh down the movie. I liked the movie after I saw it, but now that I think about it, I gave it the benefit of the doubt only because it was Kubrick and I thought there had to be some genius to it...if it were someone else, I think everyone would've passed it off as awkward directing.
But to go on topic...I don't know if the whole movie of Full MEtal Jacket is must-see...but all the scenes with Gomer Pyle definitely are.
