Unhappy Middle School Band

I'm in a middle school band at my church that we just started in January. We have like 6 singers, a drummer, a keyboard player, and a guitarist that sings too. The only problem is that apartently we can't play unless the guitarist is hear and he's always late or not there, so we hardly ever get to play or even worse we don't practice when he's out. We really need practice and our mics are like older than dinosaurs. I'm always there unless I'm like really really sick which hasn't happened in a looooooooooong time. I took guitar lessons a little in a summer gifted program for three summers but that was a long time ago but I'm still going to learn how to play guitar this summer. The guitarist will be a high schooler in 2 months and if we don't get him to come we'll never get to do anything. Should I offer to take his place after I've had lessons?
:kconf:

I wouldn't offer to take his place.... but I would suggest that you take lessons and start playing with the band. There's no reason that there can't be two guitarists in a band. One of you could play acoustic and the other could play electric; one of you could play rhythm and the other play lead; etc; etc.

Hope this makes sense.

In His love,
Nate

Sorry to sound so stupid and uninformed, but couldn't he just stay in the band and the rest of y'all drop the "middle school" moniker??? It just sounds silly to me to work for two years to get a band together, only to have the band fall apart when y'all enter high school.

As far as I know, there is no piano at all in that song. What are you talking about??? Are you inadvertantly confusing "piano music" with "sheet music"????

I agree w/ the last post. Just because someone is now in high school doesn't mean they should be removed. granted your group makes that decision, but you would have more talent available is some young high schoolers were allowed to play. If there are too many guitarists in the high school group, I'd get some of the extras to help you guys out. You don't have to be in middle school to minister to middle schoolers!

You also commented about your mics. I'd check out www.musiciansfriend.com. I order from there all the time. I've ordered 3 Nady star power 1 mics for $9.99 for my youth group. They sound pretty good and you can't beat the price!
