I fully expect that to be the case with SUm of all Fears. And i cannot sit their and watch a TERRIBLE action actor like Ben Aflick take the place of one of the GREATEST action actors in Harrison Ford....
don't waste your money on going to the theatre, it is horrible. Wait until some friend rents it and watch it for free. Better yet don't watch it

After reading the book, Sum of all Fears, by Tom Clancy, i was really looking forward to the movie. What a dissappointment. There were so many HUGE errors in the script writing, like Brian mentioned. I basically spent the majority of the time watching the movie getting ticked off at the people who wrote the script, because of their lack of reading the book.

Jack Ryan (portrayed by the sissy-boy Ben Affleck) is NOT a junoir guy in the CIA, he is the second guy in command!(DDCI)

Fowler is not married, instead having extra-marital relations with his National Security advisor, named Elizabeth.

The russian pres. was NOT named Nemerov, but NARMANOV!!

The people directing the movie made John Clark look like a machine-like person thats inhuman. Instead, in the book, Clancy portrays him as a trustworthy driver and assistant assigned with with Ding Chavez to protect Jack.

The Islamic extremists and the ticked off Indian guy were not a part of the movie, because of the political correctness of hollywood.

Overall, after spending much time reading the 900 page thriller(which was great, btw), i was extremely dissappointed with the movie (or lack thereof)....

0 out of 5 stars...

I didn't like it. Like most Clancy novels-turned-Hollywood-feature-films, I think they butchered it. They changed so much from the original script that the whole story changed, and like most Hollywood flicks, their combat scenes were totally fake. Yes, let's run a winter op in the snow and dress head to foot in black. Let's send two guys armed with pistols, one of whom has no field experience, into a place crawling with AK-toting Russian soldiers. I hate it when they take great novels like Clancy's and ruin them by condensing them down so that they lose all their depth, and turn into Good Guy vs. Bad Guy with a few explosions.
