Much Music And Verizon Wireless To Sponsor Newsboys Fall Tour

(NASHVILLE, TN) May 29, 2002-Known for their groundbreaking and innovative live shows, award winning band Newsboys have joined forces with Much Music and Verizon Wireless for its upcoming Thrive Tour this fall. This partnership marks the first sponsorship for these corporations with a Christian artist. Newsboys' management, First Company Management, JAM Productions, and H2O Booking Agency have come together to produce this history making tour. Featured guests on the tour will include ZOEgirl (Sparrow), Superchic[k] (Forefront), and By The Tree (Fervent).

Verizon Wireless is the nation's leading provider of wireless communications. The company has the largest nationwide wireless voice and data network and approximately 30 million customers. Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Voldafone.

Canada's first music video service, Much Music is live 8 hours everyday in Toronto with specialty programming focusing on the latest music-related news, information, and daily video flow that features regular drop-ins by international musical and celebrity guests. In 1994, Much Music formed a second joint venture with Rainbow Programming Holdings Inc. to create Much Music USA - which is seen in some 24 million homes by carriers including Cablevision Systems Inc., Continental Cablevision, DirecTV and HBO Direct.

Newsboys' tours and performances have traditionally caused quite a stir among their many supportive and devoted fans. From a rotating drum kit, to an inflatable arena, to the first ever traveling music festival, Festival Con Dios, Newsboys have helped catapult Christian music to new heights and to new audiences.

"We are extremely excited about the upcoming Newsboys Thrive Tour and the fact that we will be partnering with Jam Productions to produce this amazing event," stated Wes Campbell, president of First Company Management. "The fact that we are securing general sponsorships such as Much Music and Verizon Wireless will take Newsboys beyond their traditional boarders. We believe this will be Newsboys most successful tour thus far."

The tour supports Newsboys critically acclaimed project, Thrive. Produced by Steve Taylor, Peter Furler and Joe Baldridge, the band has already garnered unprecedented radio attention with their first single "It Is You" claiming the No. 1 position for 12 consecutive weeks on Christian radio (POP/CHR). Their second single "Million Pieces (Kissing Your Cares Goodbye)" will be going for adds on June 7th to AC/CHR formats. With national media attention (Newsweek, ESPN II, USA Today and CNN), sales exceeding 3 million units spanning multiple gold-certified recordings, and 19 No. 1 hits Newsboys continue to make their mark.
