| Sin is sin! There are no mild sins. You can Kill 20 people or steal some bubble gum but God calls it all sin. Paul said all things are permissible but not all things are beneficial. I'm not going o say whether swearing is a sin or not but many people do and that's what matters. I think if you're causing your brother to stumble than you ARE committing sin.
I went out and bought a Sanyo DVD player today with a TVG built in so that I can edit out the swearing. I don't think it's healthy for anyone. Even if it in the "NORM".

| I am really starting to hate watching movies, most of them are sex and cursing. As christians it affects us a lot.
Dont mess with the unholy. |

| I work in a business where there is a whole lot of wswearing and nobody seems to mind. After a while, if I am not careful, I feel Satan drawing me into that trap.... But I agree with most of these posts - the language on TV and in movies is out of control... I won't go see a movie anymore because of it!! |

| Maybe its just because i'm in college, but to me it seems like there is way less cussing in movies (and especially TV) than in the real world. Most people I hang around with that aren't Christians curse all the time and for no good reason, like its just part of normal english. I'm not saying its right, i'm just saying that in my experience people cuss at least as much, and usually more, than movies depict. |

| When I was at work a few weeks ago, I said something like "shoot" but apparently it almost sounded like the other word. And as soon as I said it, the guys i was playing cards with were like "did you here what Lee said! You're supposed to be a good Christian kid and you're talking like that!" I've heard the argument made that most ppl just talk like that and don't think it's wrong, and that may be true, but if someone knows you are a Christian, they will know that you aren't supposed to do it, and if you do, it will definitely ruin your witness.

| Playing cards while at work JesusFish! Thats a bad witness!
j/k
Actually i agree with you 100% man. I dont believe that the bible ever mentions cursing in particular anywhere (but then again are there even curse words in greek or hebrew?), it just mentions things like coarse joking and such. So ya, i think to keep our witness is a good reason not to curse. |

| Why don't you think there is anything wrong with it? Hopefully I'm not opening a big can o' worms with this question, heh. I don't think that a word in and of itself is bad, but when used in a certain context, some are, and those are the ones we need to avoid, especially because it does affect our witness.

Avoid profane and unholy babbling....
| thats a verse from somwhere in the BIble
if it ruins your witness, or offends people....dont do it. personaly, if a lot of nonchristians think it is wrong, then we are called to a higher standard, are we not? because a lot of nonchristians do think it is wrong. they do it....but like everything tehy do "ya gotta be old enough" i've heard that. my neighbor used to say like "god" an stuff all the time, and said that his dad wouldnt let him say like the f-word till he was like 13 or something...... |
