vocal exercizes

are there any good exercizes for hardcore/death metal/grind vocals? I'm new to singing and I want to develope power without destroying my vocal chords.

There is a good chance that you will eventually destroy your vocal chords singing like that.

I'd recomend to not scream at all. In my opinion, singing and melodies in hardcore songs is really cool. Now, some might say "Hey, isn't hardcore all about screaming?" and to that I say "Well, maybe, but I still like singing better!"

I've always liked melody regardless of what kind of music I listen to. Arch Enemy has a female death singer and Karen from Crisis is awesome. My favorite female metal singer is Doro Pesch. She can sing as heavy as any guy and sing ballads that bring tears to your eyes. I'm shifting out of metal and back into the blues. I go through phases of what I listen to. I'll listen to brutal death metal for a while, then switch to hard core, then get on a free jazz trip and swing back into the blues rock groove. I love the death metal vocal style..when its done right. Mikeal Ackerfeldt from Opeth, Taneli Jarva of Sentenced and the Black League are two of my favorites. Most of the bands I like are European and not well known in the States. The American Metal scene is lame to me. Now if I can find some Christian Blues (Muddy Waters, SRV, ALbert Collins, Johnny Winter ect,)
people to jam to and to give to my guitarist who does not listen to secular music....

screaming and stuff

I listen to quite a bit of punk and ska stuff, and also bands that pay out punk and ska. I'm a pretty loud (and blonde) chicken. At camps, and sometimes when i have too much energy, or not enough sleep, me and my sister in law go absolutely mental. I think after you've screamed a lot, it's heaps good, cos you loose your voice, and it sounds awesome.
This happens, maybe, once or twice a month though.
I think if i were in a punk band (dream on, bon bon) i'd get sick of screaming.
Sorry... i know this has nothing to do with you developing your screaming vocals without ruining them, but i just wanted to say that screaming is cool, in moderate bouts.
