| Creed After seeing several threads along the lines of "Is Creed Christian?" and "Are the members of Creed Christian?" I went ahead and merged the threads. This should save space, keep the forum uncluttered, and make it easier to access the thread. So if you want to discuss this issue, please do it in here-Don't start another thread...

Hey guys...
First off, I just want to say that Creed plays some really awesome music, and I love listening to it. But I do have some questions about it, and I thought that yall could probably answer them...
I know that Creed has some very Christian-sounding lyrics, but are they really Christian lyrics? Creed has said that they're not a Christian band, and Whats this life for? really makes me wonder, but in some songs, it seems like they're talking about Christ or a Christian topic...So I just wanted to ask, what do you think about them?
Thanks.

| i know scott stapp (one of creed's songwriters) was raised in a Christian home and all that, and his lyrics definitely show some religious influence (especially faceless man & my own prison). but i don't think that they are a Christian band per se. i don't know if the members are Christians or not, or what they are, but i've heard them say something along the lines of "we're not trying to preach. we believe that people shouldn't force their beliefs on anyone. you can believe whatever you think is true." once again, that is in no way a direct quote, but rather a summary of what i've heard and read in interviews. that doesn't seem very evangelical to me. the band drowning pool is in a similar situation: they write songs that seem to be very spiritual, but the members do not claim to be Christians. the songwriter for drowning pool was raised in a Christian home, and said something like "I've read the Bible cover-to-cover a few times, so obviously some of that's going to come out in what i write."
i think both of these bands (and many others) are on the right track, but haven't found the Way yet.

| Yeah, i read in an interview that all the band members believe in God, but they all have different ways to reach Him, or something like that... |

| You are one of the many people who continue to question Creed's motives and beliefs, Strat dude. I think that if you read the other thread in this forum, most of the answers you are looking for are touched on. It might take a while, but it definitely gives opinions on all sides of the argument.

| That's why they're in the "Christian Topic" category and not in the regular archives. Many of their songs have Christian themes, regardless of their statements of faith or not. Anything is open for discussion here, there's no rule against talking about anything that's not strictly Christian.

| Actually, they didn't mean for their lyrics to have a christian theme, i heard the lead singer do an interview with a christian reporter and he said he wanted nothing to do with being called a christian.

| the whole creed/religion situation is really confusing...i've heard so many interviews and stuff, and none of them seem to be very consistent...i don't try to dwell on it, though....i like the music, i think it's religious, so i listen to it as religious music...same with lifehouse...some of their songs could be praise songs, or just secular love songs...but i listen to them as praise songs

| wow, i haven't met many people who agree with me on that. most people are like "no, you have to listen to it the way the artist meant it"...but, as Shakespeare once wrote, i "take it in whatever sense i wilt"...billy corgan once said that he doesn't put the lyrics to any of his songs in the cd jackets, because he wants listeners to interpret the songs and the words however they think it should, not exactly how he wrote it....it's just like going to an art gallery and trying to figure out what the painters were trying to draw when they made abstract pitures...everyone has a different idea, and they're all equally right....that's why it's called "ART"
