Eek... A rock DJ saying that they are Christian really doesn't do anything for me. From what I've seen I don't exactly think their lifestyle reflects it either. Not to mention the fact that they've denied it many times... What's the verse? If you deny Me with your lips.... something like that?

CREED IS A CHRISTIAN BAND
Avalanche 126 -
Dude, you SO did not read my message above.

Let me put it in simpler terms:

- Scott Stapp writes all of Creed's lyrics
- Scott Stapp says he does not believe Christianity is the truth.
- Therefore, Creed is not a Christian band.

But since you believe radio DJs are omniscient, maybe I'm just arguing to a wall here.

dude, ur not talking to a wall. i am voicing what i believe about Creed, just because Scott says one thing it doesnt go tru on his music. his music has a christian theme to it if u pay attention. i said yes they r a christian band. thats what i believe and i can back it up with things. no ones perfect, i know hes gotten into bar fights and crap. but they do lead a pretty good life. they dont do drugs or drink on tour or nothin like that. they do have a positive influence on people. anyone can say all they want, but i believe that creed has a christian message but that they may not put themselevs under that category.

I see where you're coming from and all, but I still don't agree. If a person openly rejects the notion that he is a Christian and continually says so, then I don't think his lyrics really have anything to do with it. There's a HUGE difference between denying Jesus with your lips and denying Him with your actions. The actions are open to interpretation, but when someone verbally admits to not being a Christian then that's hard to argue with. I've met countless numbers of people who "lead a pretty good life", "dont do drugs or drink on tour or nothin like that", and even "have a positive influence on people".....but that doesn't make anyone a Christian any more than going to church does...which is not at all.

Good point Brent. In fact I was already to post a reply stating much of what you talked about here and realized I didn't need to

I wasn't attacking, just not agreeing. There *is* a difference and I'm sorry if it came across as such. But remember this one thing: NEVER apologize for your opinion. You have a right to it and there's no reason to be sorry for it, no matter how much I or others may disagree with it.

Maybe he's secretly a christian, and not wanting to let anyone know so he can reach people that are not christians.....

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually heard one of my youth say that to me......

I thought, wow, what some christian people go to in order to make their convictions feel a little lighter......

Bottom line.....Creed is not a Christian band. It is Christians that label them as that most of the time, and for that reason, I am not sure.......But anyway, if you like listening to them, go for it.......but it won't happen in my youth group.......!

They won't be coming to my town any time soon, but if they were I still don't think I'd see them. I saw them back when the first album was popular...good music at the show...basically a carbon-copy of the album even...but a rather boring show. From what I've seen of live footage and performances on awards shows, if you've seen them once, you've seen them every time. Stapp will prop his foot up on the monitor and squish his face up and sing....then he will occasionally curse about people throwing things around in the crowd...then he'll assume the foot on the monitor thing again. ::shrugs::

Cool

Creed has got some issues, but I don't care who in the band says what. People, if you like the music, think what you like and don't let anyone force you to believe something else. The best thing about music is the exact same line in a verse can be interpreted a hundred different ways, and no matter where yo go, someone think something different. I think Creed is being stupid throwing Chrsitian song interpretations aside because if I were a musician, I would love to hear what people think about the song, no matter what they thought or what I really wrote it to be interepreted as. Did you understand that at all? LOL.

Well, you can't deny that there are some Christian influences in his lyrics. People who aren't Christians sing "God Bless America" all the time and don't think about the words coming out of their mouths. You know, if the frontman of the band, who writes the lyrics comes out and distinctly says that he doesn't believe it, then who are we to try and tell him that he is a Christian? Lifehouse has taken a lot of flack for being sellouts and whatnot, because you have to think about their songs a little bit more than say, Mercy Me. I'm a little disappointed in POD, however. They got on MTV and when asked about the meaning of the song Alive, they said it was about a girl. Come on, have you listened to that song before? "I can't deny you"? I'm sure they would say that song means something else in a CCM article. But you know, whatever. And Jars of Clay finally got their dream come true: they are featured on a Christmas CD with Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and Christina Aguilera.

**pukes** Sorry... I just heard the name "Britney Spears" and had to hurl up my breakfast...

There seems to be a lot of crossing over and a lot of controversy. To tell you the truth, I think the dividing line between secular music and Christian music is gay. I'm not saying that Christian music is gay, just that the fact that the two are divided is just BOGUS! I mean, when I go to Wal-Mart, I have to go ALL THE WAY to the back corner of the electronics department so I can find the next big Christian band's CD. I went one morning (November 20th) to get the new Creed CD and the new Audio A cd and they didn't have Audio A... just ebcause of the division of the two types of music. I have to go to some Christian store and pay an extra 7 dollars just to get the a Christian band's CD and I have to travel 25 miles to get to the CLOSEST one. It is SOOOOO stupid. I don't know who said it or whether it was on this board or not, but someone said something like "who wants to be on a Christian label anyway? that just means you get less pay and noticed less. as long as you're playing music you like and no one stops you, go secular." At least, I saw it that way. I'm listening to less and less secular music too. The only secular music in my CD case now is Blessid Union of Souls, Creed, Lifehouse, and Linkin Park, unless you count Project 86 and POD as secular. We need to unify Christian and secular music because there aren't even any Christian radio stations around here, so I have little experience to Christian music, and the ones I listen to aren't really my style. I'll shut up now I guess.

I love creed. I love the music. I'm a Christian, and i'd much RATHER listen to a creed concert than watch a crappy raze concert. lol..c'mon!! I think we need to realize that we live in a non-Christian world. We can't not watch a movie because it has cusswords in it, or we can't not go to a concert because the singer might curse. I've heard pearl jam curse because of what goes on (stage diving, etc.). Creed uses God D*mn in their song "what's this life for" and stapp feels justified in using this word because he's dealing with a personal subject on suicide.

I'm sure alot of people are gonna chime in with "What about your Christian witness?" Honestly, if you're @ a concert like creed or NiN or Linkin' Park or something, don't tout off to everybody, "Hey! I'm a Christian." Put your witness on hold for the concert. You came to see a concert, not witness. Other people came to the concert for the music, not the be witnessed to.

I guess i don't like overly-proactive religion, but Hey! That's me

Enjoy discussing this one..

Eric
